Principal Talk
Hello King Families and Community,
We have kicked off another successful school year at King Elementary. The King staff and I are excited to work alongside you and your students as they learn and grow. The focus of our work is your student’s success, growth and development. At King, we are proud of our caring family atmosphere and strong academic program. We appreciate your efforts as a family and community in supporting the education of your children.
This includes making sure your kids are ready and present each and every school day.
The beginning of the school year serves as an opportunity for teachers to set the tone for the learning culture in the classroom. One tool we use school wide is the Social Contract. Classroom teachers facilitate dialogue with the students as they decide on a class contract focused on how students will treat and relate to each other and staff members. This Social Contract serves as the foundation for students owning and regulating their learning environment. Ask your student about how they "check" each other and hold each other accountable for the Social Contract.
We are excited for another successful school year! Thank you again for contributing to a great start!
Sincerely,
Treg Joslyn

Red Ribbon Week- October 15th-19th
School Accountability Committee (SAC)
During the September SAC meeting we welcomed our new principal Mrs. Treg Joslyn. So far her transition seems to be going smoothly. There was discussion on the new paint colors of the school, how student council is now doing the morning announcements and the positive response to Peachjar (the new flyer app). We also welcomed the new staff members; Heather Sawyer- Art teacher, Ashley West- 1st grade teacher, and Jennifer Foster- Social worker. In Mrs. Joslyn's principals report, she reported that our student population is down from last year. We have around 360 students including preschool. The district as a whole is down in numbers and they are concerned. The new parking lot seems to be working out well. The next phase, which includes the kiss-n-go lane is still on the books, but will take some time and more planning. Our 2018 School Performance rating was 63.6%, this is up from 57.6% last year. This makes King a performance school. A volunteer crossing guard was discussed for Downhill Drive.
We had a great turn out with many new parents. If you are interested in attending our next meeting it will be on, Monday October 8, 2018 @ 5:00 pm in the library.
Thank you.
