January Newsletter
Montgomery High School
Dear Viking Family
Welcome to the 2nd half of the school year! Incredible that we are already at this point.
We are pushing attendance, attendance, attendance! Students cannot sustain solid academic progress when they miss school or when they are habitually tardy.
The Importance of Being On Time!
Since the beginning of the semester, 10% of our students have been arriving to class late! Students who arrive past the tardy bell often miss important information impacting their success in the classroom.
This school year, Montgomery High School implemented a new Tardy Policy. Students who are late for a total of three times will be assigned and scheduled detention. Students who are late for a total of five times may be assigned to a Time Management class on Saturdays from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.
In order to stress the importance of being on time, Montgomery will be running tardy sweeps the week of 1/21 and 1/27. Students who are not on time to classes will be caught in the tardy sweep and assigned detention.
If you have questions, call our Attendance Office, Ms. Guadalupe (890-3833 ext. 50110) and Ms. Sullivan (890-3833 ext. 50111) or email rsullivan@srcs.k12.ca.us, gperez@srcs.k12.ca.us

Advising Presentation
Dear Montgomery High School Parents/Guardians,
We want to inform all Viking Parents that this is the time of year that MHS Counselors visit classrooms to present information on courses for the next school year.
During the presentations, students will receive a Course Request Form and instructions on how to access the ONLINE COURSE REQUEST PORTAL in Illuminate Ed.
Parents/Guardians, please review the (Hard Copy) COLOR-CODED COURSE REQUEST FORM with your child and sign it. This form, coupled with the online course instructions, will serve as a guide as students submit their requests online.
Students will not be able to meet with their counselors for individual advising without a signed Course Request Form, as well as students will not be cleared of Honors and IB courses without a parent signature.
We appreciate your support in our efforts to provide the best educational trajectory for MHS students and hope the Spring Semester of 2020 is off to a good start.
Parent Portal: To login to the student information system for the first time, you will need your access code. If you have not received the access code, please contact your child's school. Once you have your unique access code, go to: https://srcs.illuminatehc.com/login
Montgomery Education Foundation
12th Annual CRAB FEED & AUCTION
The Montgomery Education Foundation is hosting its 12th Annual CRAB FEED and AUCTION
on January 25, 2020. We are a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to enriching the learning environment for all 1,700+ students at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, California. Public school budgets have been slashed so we are doing everything we can to raise crucial funds to support these students. Supplemental funds are used to update aging technology, provide classrooms with much needed supplies, sponsor field trips and support underfunded programs such as art, music, drama, film and leadership.
COMMUNITY PRESENTATION ABOUT VAPING
Parents, educators and teens: you are all invited to an important Community Education Event about vaping, which will be held in English and in Spanish in the month of January. Learn about vaping, types of devices, health effects and resources for support. If you've been following recent news stories about the amount of students vaping, and increasing cases of severe lung disease, you'll want to attend this event.
Vaping 101 in English - Wednesday, January 29 6:30-7:30pm, at Santa Rosa Middle School, 500 E Street, in the Library
