SLCS District Update
June 17, 2021
Note from the Superintendent
Dear SLCS Families and Staff Members,
In a year of ups and downs and ins and outs, the SLHS Varsity Softball is sending us all into summer on a high note. They have made a run to the Division 1 State Finals and will play Saturday at Michigan State University for the championship. It is a joy to watch as the girls are truly having fun and oh yeah, they are really good as they've outscored their opponents 52-8 in the State Tournament. Good luck and Go Lions!
As a school community, we demonstrated tremendous resolve as we successfully navigated the challenges of the 2021 school year. For those who have graduated or are retiring, we wish you all the best as you greet the next phase of life. Please know that you will always have a home in SLCS. For the rest of our SLCS family, we wish you a safe and enjoyable summer. With the new school year, we will experience a renewed energy and enthusiasm for all things SLCS. Look for exciting updates in August about the 2021-2022 school year.
SLCS Strong!

Elementary Families
Kindergarten Orientation:
Each elementary school is planning a Kindergarten orientation event for August. Our Junior Kindergarten classrooms will also host their own event. These events will provide new Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten students with a chance to visit the school, meet school staff, learn about bus safety (and ride a school bus!) and meet other students. Information will be shared with families who have registered their child for Kindergarten. If you still need to register an incoming Kindergarten student, we ask that you begin that process so our staff will know to invite your child to the event. Watch for further information from each school regarding the event day and time.
Thank you to the South Lyon Education Foundation for their support of the Kindergarten orientation! For more information on the Foundation’s initiative to support our Kindergarten orientation please check out their website- https://www.slefoundation.org/.
Bus Safety Experience for First Grade Students:
Our Transportation Department will be hosting a special event during the afternoon of August 19th for incoming first grade students who will be using district bus services this year and are new to riding a school bus. This may be due to the student spending Kindergarten in one of our Virtual Learning Program classes, due to some families feeling more comfortable driving their child during the pandemic, or due to students completing Kindergarten elsewhere. It is important to us that students who will be riding a bus for the first time in their school experience learn about bus safety. Families will need to sign up in advance for this bus safety lesson and practice bus ride and are eligible to participate if their first grader is within a bussing zone and did not ride a school bus this year. Watch for updates from our Transportation Department on the event, including a sign up link.
