2024 Peer Public Health Advocate Summer Camp - Student Application
Thank you for your interest in the upcoming 2024 Public Health Advocate Summer Camp! This is a FREE authentic public health industry experience led by San Diego County's Health & Human Services Agency.
Monday, July 15th will launch this 2nd annual 5-day summer camp where students will receive hands-on training from public health professionals in the following branches: Tuberculosis Control and Refugee Health; Epidemiology and Immunization Services; HIV, STD, and Hepatitis; and Maternal, Child and Family Health Services. The camp will expand students' understanding of health careers beyond hospital systems, providing an excellent introduction to public health occupations and exposing them to various public health professionals. Students will have the opportunity to explore public health topics individually and create a project working in teams.
Camp Details
Where: San Diego County Office of Education-Linda Vista Innovation Center (SDCOE-LVIC), 2202 Comstock Street, San Diego 92111
When: Monday, July 15th – Friday the 19th.; each day will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m.
Eligibility: Students must:
- Be rising 11th & 12th graders (must be a sophomore or junior during the 2023-2024 school-year).
- Be 18 years or younger.
- Complete and submit this form by Wednesday, May 15th. No late submissions will be considered.
- Ask a teacher to submit the Teacher Recommendation Form by Wednesday, May 15th.
- Have a parent/guardian sign the Digital Consent Form (provided upon acceptance).
- Obtain own transportation to and from the SDCOE-LVIC.
- Provide own laptop.
- Provide own lunch.

Summer our non-profit is again running our 9 Saturday afternoon Zoom STEM immersion programs, from June 8th to August 3rd. In our Health Science Immersion Program (H-SIP) high school students hear from health professional speakers as they learn about the academic, research and professional care settings of the health sciences field. In our Computer Science Immersion Program (C-SIP), students explore the changing world of technology as we hear from tech professionals and explore fields such as coding, web development, software and user design. In our Engineering Immersion Program (E-IP) we explore subjects such as chemical, civil and computer engineering. In our new Environmental Science Immersion program (E-SIP), students explore current environmental issues as we hear from working environmental professionals.
The application deadline for all four programs is Sunday, May 19th. All class years can apply, and all programs are free for all students whose families qualify for the Free and Reduced lunch program. Attached to this email is an informational flyer and a social media post. Students can also learn more about the programs' curriculum and apply at impactinternships.org. USNA NASS and STEM Information
United States Naval Academy Naval Academy Summer Seminar and Summer STEM Programs for June opened on January 4th and will close on April 15th. These programs are a great opportunity for students to learn about the Naval Academy or visit Annapolis, Maryland for a vibrant week of problem-solving, exploratory learning, critical thinking, and team building.

Outpost Junior Counselor Program description:
- Free
- For students entering 10th grade through freshman year in college in Fall 2024
- All current 2023-24 high school students are eligible to apply
- Minimum 2-week commitment
- Monday-Friday, 8:30 to 4:00 PM
- Located at Canyonside Community Park (12350 Black Mountain Rd, SD 92129)
- Includes daily training in leadership, professionalism, and communication
- Looks good on college and job applications
- Counts as “Service Leadership Hours” (One session = 86 hours)
- Junior Counselors are eligible to request letters of recommendation
Our program goal is help Junior Counselors grow in their leadership skills as they give back to their community.

SD Zoo Safari Park Employment
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park will be hiring 16 to 18 years olds at their upcoming hiring event on Saturday, April 20th on-grounds at the Safari Park for the positions that are attached (Food Service Clerk and Merchandise Sales Clerk).
