The Meeks Messenger
1st Edition, Vol. 15, December 2018
From the desk of Lauren Meeks...
Well, this is a bitter-sweet Weekly Message for me. Today marks my last day before beginning my maternity leave. I am excited to spend time with our newest baby boy, Cannon, but I can't tell you how much I am going to miss being at Parkside with you all every day.
I always tell people how blessed I feel to have a career I love. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would be here the next day, ready to go with a huge smile on my face. I don't come to work each day because I have to, I come because I truly love what I do. Loving what I do has everything to do with the community I serve. The love and kindness I have felt since coming to this school has been incredible, and for that, I thank you.
While I will be gone, please know that I will be thinking of you all. I know you all will be in good hands with Mr. Haug, Mrs. Norman, Mrs. Jistel, and Mrs. Harman. I am so appreciative for the encouragement and support as I begin my maternity leave.
All my love,
Lauren

Kids First was a HUGE SUCCESS!!!
Our third grade students participated in an awesome educational program called “Kids First" on Tuesday, December 4th. Texas PTA created this interactive program to increase awareness and understanding of conditions 3rd grade students may wonder about, specifically: ADHD, autism, dyslexia, speech, hearing, vision, and mobility impairments. Parkside staff and other district representatives lead our students through learning experiences that made these disabilities come to life for our students.
To say the kids learned a lot would be an understatement. Our students left each session with a good idea of how life might be different for other kids who suffer from some of these disabilities and also learned a whole lot about empathy and inclusivity along the way! We hope to be able to bring this program to other grade levels in the future! If you're curious or have questions about the program, feel free to reach out to the third grade teachers, Ami Harman, or Denele Yemets.
Thank you so very much to all the volunteers who made this event possible. A special thanks goes out to Ami Harman and Danele Yemets!
