Texas and the Civil War

Why did the United States divide and go to war against itself? How did this affect families, the economy, and enslaved people? What battles were fought within Texas' borders, and what toll did these battles take on the soldiers? A Museum educator will lead students as they search for evidence from artifacts and paintings. A special guest from the past, Major General Granger, will tell his story about how his reading of the Emancipation Proclamation brought about the end of slavery in Texas.

Gobbling the Gulf

Did you know that your favorite food is full of energy? Did you know that energy flows between all living things? Join Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Sea Center staff to learn how all creatures are connected through the food chain. Be prepared to learn some cool science, play some games, and watch a video of Sea Center’s fish at feeding time!

All About Matter

Combine bubbles, eyedroppers, and air in different states and you have an incredibly interactive program with staff from the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. We will focus on the unusual characteristics of water, use process skills to observe and ask questions using bubbles, and play with components of air in solid, liquid, and gaseous states. Your students actively participate with staff throughout the program as they learn more about the interaction between different states of matter. A kit will be mailed, which includes supplies needed for student experiment along with other goodies for your classroom.
Sciencepalooza

Sciencepalooza features the zaniest experiments in the Science Live! collection and explores a variety of science concepts. With a brand new series of demonstrations (eddy current guillotine, anyone?) exploring everything from optical illusions to materials science, every presentation provides an unparalleled science adventure!

Hank the Cowdog's Ranch Wildlife

Join us as Hank the Cowdog, the Head of Ranch Security, teaches in a fun way about cowboys and horses in a new ranch life book. Saddle up for some fun as everyone's favorite head of Ranch Security gives readers a glimpse into the world of horses, ranch wildlife, and the life of a working cowboy. Hank’s vibrant author, John Erickson, will sing songs accompanying himself on the banjo and will read from various books using the voices of the characters. Reading is exciting with Hank the Cowdog stories. Join us on this ranching life adventure!

Reptiles are a diverse group of animals, displaying great variety between species; think about turtles versus snakes! During the program, we will take an up-close look at our live critters and compare their various body structures and their functions. We will investigate and explore how they eat, how they survive in their environment/habitat, and how they protect themselves from predators.

Why did people move to Texas from other countries? Were they always welcomed when they arrived? A Museum Educator will discuss the four primary waves of immigration to the United States through Texas from 1845-1924, the history behind the movement of people to Texas then and now, interesting stories from immigrants, and artifacts that people brought with them on the journey. Many of the stories of immigration to Texas can also be compared to the characteristics of immigration to the United States.
