A principal wears many hats, what is the primary hat that you wear as you lead your campus community and why?

Instructional leader is the hat most worn. It is the very purpose that unifies everyone in the building. No matter what occurs each day, instruction is our purpose and must be the focus at all times.

What does it mean to fly and how does this definition guide your daily practice?

There is but one bird that will peck at an Eagle and that is the crow. He sits on the back of the Eagle and pecks at his neck. Because the Eagle knows who he is, he does not fight or respond to the crow. The Eagle opens his wings and flies higher in the sky. The higher the Eagle flies, the more difficult it is for the crow to breathe. Eventually the crow falls off the Eagle's back.

Flying high means remaining focused on the goals and not allowing the small things to take over the journey.

Please share an impactful moment as a school administrator and how it fuels your daily actions.

What fuels me is supporting students as they mature and decide to break the cycle that once engulfed them. Regarding impactful moments, watching and supporting students as they realize that their dreams are possible with hard work and a will to overcome.

As a principal, how does leadership impact student experience and achievement and in what way do you maintain a pulse on your campus to ensure student success?

Leadership impacts the student experience and student achievement on many levels.

Leadership sets that tone for the entire campus. From expectations to productivity, leadership is the key to setting the standard for excellence and unifying the team to focus on student achievement.

Please share a word of advice for aspiring campus leaders.

It's not a position, it's a lifestyle.
