Hoot Hoot Herald
November 14, 2014 - Edition 5
From the Counselors:
If you have not already done so, please reply to the email from Shanna regarding emotionally "at-risk" students. We need to compile this information into a document for our Crisis Response Team.
Please keep your red Character Owls coming in to support our character trait of the month--COURAGE.
NO Place for Hate:
On Tuesday, we will have our first No Place for Hate activity, the Mix-It-Up Lunch. Students are encouraged to sit with someone new at lunch. We learn so much about ourselves when we are courageous enough to reach out to someone new.
Please take a moment and allow your students to reflect on this experience after lunch as you see appropriate.
Doss Community Facilities Meeting
SFC Farmer Visit and Veggie Tasting -- Monday, November 17th
"The SFC-organized Farmers Visits and Produce Samplings are at no cost to the schools we work with. We are enthusiastic that Doss is so passionate about real healthy food."
- Lily ~ SFC Farm-to-School Ambassador
Michelle Korns recently joined Doss as the new cafeteria manager. We are lucky to have her.
Ms. Korns and the Sustainable Food Center of Austin with help from the Doss Healthy Lifestyles Committee hosted a veggie tasting during lunch time. A local farmer visited with students and veggie samples were shared.
Farmer’s Visit + Sampling is on November 17 in the cafeteria during the lunch period (10:45-12:45pm). All Doss students will get to participate.

Quote of the Week:
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite" - Nelson Mandela
