State Testing Notification
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that your child will take the computer-based/paper -based California Standards Assessments in Science Assessment (5th grade only) (CAST), 3/4/5 Grade English Language Arts CAASPP Assessment, and 3/4/5 Grade Math CAASPP Assessment. The results of these tests will help determine appropriate enrichment and support services for the coming school year.
To help support your student’s success during testing please ensure your child:
Arrives to school on time
Eats a healthy breakfast at home or at school
Gets a good night's sleep
Brings their charged chromebook and wired headphones (headphones are available at the school site).Wireless headphones are NOT allowed.
Feels encouraged to do their best.
Please review the testing calendar below. The testing Window is 5/2 - 5/19, 2022.
Your child has had an opportunity to participate in a practice test to become familiar with the computer-based testing platform, item types, and response formats they will see on the CAASPP/CAST assessments. Please review the following policies with your child before testing:
Electronic Devices—Students are not permitted to have any electronic devices, including but not limited to, cell phones, smartphones, ear pods, and smartwatches, at any time during testing or during breaks (e.g., restroom). All devices must be turned off and put away in the student’s backpack. If your child is found with an electronic device, his or her test will be invalidated.
Testing Rules Acknowledgment—CAASPP/CAST Assessments include a Testing Rules Acknowledgment that reads: “I understand the testing rules that were just read to me. If I do not follow these rules, my test score may be invalidated.” Prior to testing, test administrators read the rules to students, and students acknowledge that they understand the testing rules by signing below the statement on their planning sheets, worksheets, or work folders.
Discussing Test Content after Testing—The last portion of the testing rules read to students before they sign below the Testing Rules Acknowledgment states: “Because the content in all statewide assessments is secure, you may not discuss or reveal details about the test items or passages after the test. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting online, for example, on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, or Instagram.” Please make sure your child understands that “discussing” test content includes any kind of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting to blogs or social media websites, etc.
Working Independently—Students are responsible for doing their own work during the test and for protecting their answers from being seen by others. If students are caught cheating during testing, their tests will be invalidated.
Leaving Campus—If your child leaves campus before completing a test session (for lunch, an appointment or illness, etc.), they may not be allowed to return to that test session. If your child doesn't feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please remember not to schedule appointments on testing days.
Testing Accommodations—If your child has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), a Section 504 plan, or is an English Language Learner (ELL), testing accommodations were put in place through the IEP/504 ELD process and will be provided for your child.
If you have any questions related to the test administration, you may contact Laura Holman, Test Coordinator or Emily Mullins, Principal. Thank you for supporting your child and being encouraging so that all students can be successful during state testing.
Sincerely,
Emily Mullins
Principal, Hooker Oak School

Carnival Help Needed
We need parent help to make this event successful! As you know, Hooker Oak thrives when our parent commitment is strong, and many of our parents have been unable to meet this commitment during the pandemic. Here is your chance! We are seeking parents to be involved in the planning of the School Carnival by being a part of the Carnival Committee. If you are interested, please contact PTO at hookeroakpto@gmail.com.
Thank you!
