VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL GOAL: 'BEING COURAGEOUS"
WHAT: To follow our school value of being ‘Courageous’ – by doing it!
WHY: Courage is important because ‘we all have to do things we don't like sometimes’.
Courage is when you are brave about something you fear.
Everyone is afraid of something or someone - lowering your standards to go along with the crowd should never pass for courage.
HOW: Courageous people believe in themselves. They know who they are and what they stand for.
They have strong values, recognize their personal capabilities, and are confident in meeting the challenges that lie before them.
Courageous people are passionate and purposeful.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS: (See profile sheet)
1) Your courage means being afraid and acting anyway
2) Your courage becomes a habit, a muscle you can exercise
3) You notice every time you do something that you’re scared to do—something your body is telling you not to do
4) You learn to attend to positive signals and to ignore negative ones
5) You find role models of quietly courageous people
6) You continue to learn and accept challenges
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
We have had confirmation today that the proposed changing of the school holidays, will not go ahead. This means we still have two weeks to go in this term and the school holidays will begin, as planned, on the 2nd October until the 17th of October.
We are still operating under Level 2 protocols and this means we can not have a 'safe' assembly at the moment. Instead we did an online assembly today (see the link below) with our Principal certificates and Cross Country certificates - well done to all our learners who achieved these!
We have begun planning for 2022 and a major part of our planning is making sure we know how many learners we have in each class and with each teacher. If you know of any learners, especially 5 year olds, who are thinking of enrolling at Vogeltown, please get them to contact the office. We are also offering 10 'out of zone' places for new entrants in 2022 (see the advert below).
At our BOT meeting on Tuesday night, we signed off on the final plans for the decking in front of the senior rooms. We also plan to have the Hall painted (inside and out) over the Xmas holidays. See the plans below for the decking in front of the senior classrooms.
We have some plans to share soon for the upgrade of the Junior school. We are going to upgrade the inside starting in Terms 1 and 2 of next year.
There have been some changes to our events and calendar for 2021 as a result of lockdown. These are listed below. We apologise for changing some dates, however a lot of our events cannot go ahead at Level 2. Please have a look below and update your diaries.

OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS 2022
APPLICATION TO ENROL 2022
Enrolments at Vogeltown School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office or on our school website. Students who live in the “home zone” have absolute right to enrol at the school at any time.
The Board has determined that up to 10 places are likely to be available for “out of zone” students at particular levels within the school in 2022:
New Entrant/Year 0 - x 10 places
The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments received from students who live within our school’s “home zone”.
Application for enrolment for an “out of zone” student is made by completing an ‘out of zone enrolment form’, available from the school office, printing one off our school website or a request from office@vogeltown.school.nz.
The deadline for receipt of applications for “out of zone” places is Friday 24th September 2021.
Parents who live within our “home zone” and intend enrolling their child during Terms 3&4 should also apply by Friday 24th September 2021 to assist the school to plan appropriately for the 2022 school year.
If the number of “out of zone” applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot is required, it will be held on Monday 4th October 2021. All families will be contacted with the outcome of the ballot by Friday 8th October.
Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
