Monday Memo
March 2, 2020
Great Things!
We wrapped up our drive for back snacks and socks/underwear on Friday. Thank you so much to everyone who was able to donate! We have 25 students that we send back snacks home with currently; these snacks really help with weekend supplemental food for them! Thank you.
Wow! Kimberly and Shandi worked so hard on Friday after school to get our book fair decorations up! Let's be sure to get our students in to look at the books and make their wish lists. Thank you for organizing this!
Our community partner-Commerce Bank- provided sandwiches and cookies on Thursday! A huge shout out to Patty Carbaugh and her staff for doing that for us! (FYI they also held a bake sale to raise money to put towards our food drive- and raised over $175.00!!)
Our EHS and HS classrooms had safe environment monitoring, and received the results. I am so proud to say that they rocked it! Absolutely no concerns in the areas of supervision, student engagement, safe classrooms, and communication! AWESOME!
Challenge/Focus: Skill of Composure
The skill of Composure is our focus for this week. When a child is having a moment of upset, let's focus on our internal state, and find composure before reacting or entering into the situation. A large part of CD is regulating our own emotional state before we can help anyone else. This week-focus on your composure when dealing with an upset child.
Are you willing?

Speech and Language Tip of the Week:
Play an imitation game. Some kids have trouble imitating actions so practicing imitation skills may be beneficial. You can play “Do what I do”. The teacher can start by performing an action, i.e. patting your head, and sing the song “do what I do, do what I do, we all can do what _____ does.” Then, have each child participate by doing something and everyone doing what each child does, and so on.
Fine Motor Tip of the Week:
According to recommendations from the Handwriting Without Tears program, letter size preference for Pre-K children is 1 inch. If your students are tracing their names in class, 1 inch size letters is age appropriate. For students who have difficulty tracing, have them try 2 or 3 inch letters. It is also recommended to start with capital letters at this age.
