Greetings from your subject librarian
Hi, Everyone! Welcome back to school! Things at the library are moving along, I've been planning my LOR class for the spring semester and while building my syllabus I thought that it might be handy for your students to have my information so they know who to contact at the library for research assistance. So, If you have space on your course syllabi, could you please include the following information (or some variation of it) for your students:
"Your librarian for this course is Becky Richardson. She is available to assist you with developing search strategies and finding material on assignments you will be completing this course. You can reach her at email@example.com or 212B Waterfield Library."
I also thought that since I'm sending you this request that I would also give you a brief newsletter.
The parts of my monthly newsletters will include the following information, however, for since this is the beginning of the term I don’t have much to add yet.
- Sessions Taught
None yet, but my calendar is ready to accept whatever classes you need for your
students! Just call or drop me and email! Just as an FYI – because we are still filling the Fine Arts and Science librarian positions, we are a bit tight on scheduling and need at least a week or two notice for instruction sessions. We are also asking for teachers to be present during instruction sessions as they tend to work better.
- New Workshop
Later this spring, it is my intention to schedule a Research Night for students in your
department. This is not meant to be a substitute for an instruction session. This is a time where students can just show up, no appointment needed, for one on one research assistance for ongoing class projects. I will let you know when I have the scheduled a date for the workshop.
- Library Guide Changes
I have been working to update the library guides, it is an ongoing activity. If there is anything you feel should be added or would be helpful to your students, please contact me! Also, please let me know if you would like a library guide page built for a specific class or assignment. I am happy to work with you!
- New Titles
The cataloging department has several shelves full of new titles that are being cataloged. I
will let you know when they are ready for the shelves!
