MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy Monday, Eagles!

What a great Homecoming week! I want to commend everyone for their incredible display of school spirit - I'm consistently reminded how proud I am to be an Eagle!

As you know, attendance is a big focus for all of us this year. As you'll see below in the attendance numbers for this week, our percentages are dropping. I don't want to see anyone fall into the trap of losing credits due to poor attendance. Every day counts!

A reminder to all teachers - please be in the hallway/at your classroom door during passing periods. We have significantly fewer tardies when teachers are out helping us motivate students to get to class on time.

Lastly, a reminder for seniors - I'm seeing entirely too many seniors come back late from being off-campus for lunch. I don't want to have to remove this privilege, but will do so if we continue to abuse it. Just be back on time and there will be no issue.

I hope everyone has a fantastic week!

Sincerely,

Brandi Hosack

Principal

HOMECOMING KING AND QUEEN!

Congratulations to our Homecoming King, Christopher Velasquez, and our Queen, Valeria Herrera! You are, officially, AKINS ROYALTY!

AKINS CHEER ROCKS!

Our cheerleaders and sponsors, Ms. Gielow and Ms. Garcia-Meitin, simply do an amazing job! They are always leading the way in school spirit, both on campus and off, and participate in numerous events all over Austin. I'm so proud of this group!

AKINS LAW & CORRECTIONS INTERNS

Great job to Dr. Katz and her interns in the Law and Corrections programs. They participated in two community events this weekend and represented Akins HS with pride. I've received a couple of emails from community members commending them on their professionalism and maturity. Way to go!

VOLLEYBALL WINS Vs. LEHMAN

Congratulations to Coach Thomas, her staff, and they entire volleyball team for their win over Lehman Friday night! They made short work of Lehman, beating them in 3 games. Great job!

HOMECOMING VICTORY!

Of course, a big congrats to Coach Garza, the football staff, and the team for the amazing Homecoming victory! It was an amazing game! If you haven't been to a football game, yet, you're missing out. Super job, everyone!

AKINS AG - VET TECH AND FFA

Just a quick shout-out to Jennifer Doyle (our new Ag teacher) and Megan Kay. First, the vet clinic was better than I've ever seen. I'm extremely impressed with the level of professionalism witnessed on Friday by our vet tech students - they even had a media outlet (KVUE) come do a story on their program. Also, our FFA students put in long hours in San Antonio at the jackpot show. I know their hard work is going to pay off during show season!
