A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The snow arrived this week in Northeast Ohio, and, in keeping with the 2020 tradition, it will be remembered for many years to come! I wanted to share my thoughts regarding recess and provide some winter recess reminders.
We live in Ohio. We have winter every year. It is more important than ever, especially during this pandemic, to get fresh air. I encourage our teachers to embrace recess and go outside. That being said, I have been in education long enough to make the statement, “Some kids just don't wear coats; they wear layers.” Of course, we will remind them to put something on before going outside. But they will go out. So please ask your child as they leave for school, “Are you dressed warm enough to go outside for recess today?” If, for some reason, an issue arises where the teacher feels the child is not adequately dressed for outdoor recess, I have instructed the teachers to contact me directly, and I'll call home to share their concerns.
Encourage your child to wear boots, but if they don't have boots, then send in extra socks, so if their feet get wet outside, they can change. There is nothing worse than the feeling of being damp and cold. Playing in the snow at recess is a right of passage for all elementary students. Snow is fun, but let's be smart. Here are the reminders we shared this week in class:
If your child is wearing boots, they may play in the snow; otherwise, they will remain on the blacktop during recess.
Throwing of snow is permitted by all students when Mr. Wilgor has up the targets.
Do not climb on the snow hills. Why? It’s an accident waiting to happen, and frankly, I try hard to keep our kiddos safe.
Stomp off boots and shoes before entering the building.
I hope you and your family have an enjoyable weekend.
Please remember to keep our Savior's birth at the forefront of all we do.
Grace and Peace,
Mrs. Hibler
