We would like to remind you that:
November 2nd is a school day for all HPS students (Cohort C students in-person, all others follow the remote learning schedule)

Return to School Plan Update
Per the request of Commissioner Riley, on October 20th, we provided an update on Holyoke’s return-to-school plan that with information about our:
current learning models,
partnership with local community organizations to offer learning support pods,
careful review of data about the health environment in Holyoke, and
our future plan.
We are especially excited about our partnerships with local community organizations (Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, Homework House, Girls Inc.) to offer learning support pods. The pods are for 10-13 students with two staff members each.
HHS plans to open campus learning centers at Dean and North Campuses (See the High School News section below for more information).
In all learning pods and learning centers, we are abiding by DESE and/or EEC guidelines for safety, especially social distancing, hand washing, face coverings/masks and enhanced cleaning procedures.
We recognize the need for more in-person options is important. We are carefully reviewing the data about the health environment in Holyoke, carefully tracking cases of students and staff (whether they are in our buildings or at home), and meeting weekly with the local department of public health. Once the community moves out of the red zone, we will resume our efforts to bring students in grades PreK-2 back for in-person learning in a phased approach. Tentatively, we would first start with PreK four days a week, since our enrollment is low enough to accommodate the required social distancing. Then, we would move a grade at a time (kindergarten, 1st and 2nd) for hybrid learning. Of course, families still have the option of continuing remote learning at home.
Visit the Return to School webpage to view the 10-20-20 Plan Update.
High School News
Progress Reports - First-quarter progress reports for all high school students were mailed home on Friday, October 16th. Please know that all parents and guardians can gain access to their students’ attendance and grades via SchoolBrains. Parents/ guardians are encouraged to connect with school counseling offices if they need instruction and or access codes to your students’ records.
2019-2020 4th quarter credit recovery - Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors have until November 10th to complete work assigned during the 4th quarter last year. Read more on the HHS homepage of our website.
Campus Learning Centers - We know that at home learning has been a struggle for many of our students - be it internet issues, multiple siblings in a small space, or the need for even more structure to support their learning. Toward that end we have begun planning a model for limited on-campus learning centers. The learning centers would allow students to access their remote classes from a supervised space on both the Dean and North campuses. Staffing and space will limit the number of students we can offer this option to, and we will not be able to provide transportation to or from the campuses. We are working with the Holyoke Board of Health in the planning, and hope to have a program in place by November 2nd. If this is something you would commit to (and we would have an attendance requirement linked to continued participation), please complete this short survey by October 22nd.
Below is some information about quarantining at home and how to be safe when ridesharing. We encourage you to visit our School Safety webpage for best practice resources about health and safety measures that prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Tips for At-Home Quarantine
There has been an uptick in COVID-19 cases over the past month, and household transmission is a recurring theme in many cases. That’s why knowing how to practice at-home quarantine is important. If someone in your home is sick with COVID-19, avoid contact with that person during their isolation period. There are a few simple steps you can take to reduce your risk of getting COVID-19 while someone else in your household is in isolation or quarantine. Please check out this infographic from the Massachusetts Department of Health:
How to be Safe When Ridesharing
With temperatures becoming cooler, people may find that they are more likely to use ridesharing, taxis, paratransit, and personal vehicles as we move towards winter. Being prepared to travel safely will help to decrease the risks of getting the coronavirus. Wear face coverings, avoid touching surfaces, practice handwashing. Here are some resources about how to protect yourself when using transportation: Carpool flyer, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website, Stop COVID-19 Carpool Video.
HPS Social Media - STEM Week, Unity Day, and Drug & Violence Awareness
Next week is Drug & Violence Prevention Awareness Week. We will be asking our community to share photos of themselves wearing red on Thursday, 10/29 to bring awareness to this important issue. Email a photo and description to social@hps.holyoke.ma.us for us to post on social. Every submission will be entered into a raffle for an Amazon gift card. Visit our website for more information and to learn about the other social media celebrations and educational campaigns taking place this month.
Mark your calendars for school year 20-21 events.
