A spring break hello from Mrs. Fadeji
I hope this Penngrove Press finds you all healthy and safe at home. The updates you're receiving from Petaluma City Schools are the best resource for up to date District information regarding COVID-19. If you are not receiving them, please let me know.
In yesterday's PCS email, it mentioned that students will start home based learning opportunities on March 30th. This is correct for students on the traditional calendar. For Penngrove, our teachers return on March 30th and will spend the week of March 30 - April 3 setting up learning plans for our students. You can expect opportunities to connect with some members of #teampenn during the week of March 30th, however the official home based learning will not start until Monday, April 6.
There are many schools successfully implementing at home learning and we, of course, will focus on making sure that your child gets the best possible education, even from afar. That being said, my primary concern is the social-emotional well being of each of our students. Please keep me informed if your child is experiencing overwhelming feelings of any kind. I personally will be making myself available for phone calls and video chats when students need/want a check in. Many of our staff members will be doing the same and we're getting creative with how we will stay connected during this unexpected and difficult time. There are still so many unknowns which makes our plan ever-changing but what I do know is that we need your help to maintain a strong school-home connection. Please make sure your child knows his/her teacher is excited to connect with them after spring break!
I do have one piece of homework for you all and that's to complete the quick survey here. I'd love to get a jump start on who needs devices, who needs WiFi, who needs school lunches, etc.
Penn Village, this is our moment to shine. Lean in. We've got this.
With love,
Amy
Plans Change. We must adapt. How?
- Deep breaths can help in a moment of overwhelm
- Calm always beats panic
- This too shall pass
- Perspective is everything. The truth is that someone else's reality is much harder than yours.
- Your children pick up on almost EVERYTHING so be very mindful of your state of mind around them
Mrs. Olufs Saves the Day!
Hello to my Favorite Penngrove Panthers!
I’ve been thinking about you all so much lately and how many fun STEM opportunities you have right in your home! In the last few weeks, I read the story Mousetronaut by Mark Kelly (who is a retired NASA astronaut) to many of you right before we built the BEST straw rockets! Remember that?! We had so much fun. If you have a straw, paper, and tape at home, you can recreate that same activity with your family. Click here to learn how to make a straw rocket.
Also, here is another story of Mousetronaut’s adventures read aloud FROM SPACE by a NASA astronaut. Click here to listen to the story Mousetronaut Goes to Mars, by Mark Kelly. Send me an e-mail and let me know what you think! aolufs@petk12.org.
Try to have some fun and keep learning!

Stuck at Home? These 12 Famous Museums Offer Virtual Tours You Can Take on Your Couch
Going into a self-quarantine can have many complex issues and complications beyond having enough food and supplies for two weeks. In terms of entertainment, it also probably means you’re in for a lot of boredom, a lot of Netflix, and a lot of browsing the internet.
But there is a way to get a little culture and education while you’re confined to your home. According to Fast Company, Google Arts & Culture teamed up with over 500 museums and galleries around the world to bring anyone and everyone virtual tours and online exhibits of some of the most famous museums around the world.
