Bloodbath in the South
Yesterday Jan 17th, was a day of celebration for patriots in the South. The Battle of Cowpens has been won by the Americans! The Patriots and the British armies clashed together at Cowpens South Carolina. This marked the end of the British advance,and they are now on the run. The British started the battle with 50 Dragoons, and about a thousand troops, but ended the battle with about 10 Dragoons left, and 800 troops dead. The Americans fared much better, with only 100 of their troops killed or wounded.
Major Players in the Battle
Patriot General Daniel Morgan was pitted against British General Banastre Tarleton. Morgan anticapated the British Commanders attack strategy, and lead them straight into a trap. He also rode through his ranks shouting encouragement, like 'Come on Boys, old Morgan will never be defeated!" his men as a result had their morale boosted, and won the battle. General George Washington Commented that this was the 'turning point" in the campaign for the South.
Beautiful Area turned War Zone
The Cowpens battle zone was once a prospering forest, now it is a barren waste land. Entire ares of trees have been destroyed, and many people and landmarks. The above photo is a memorial to the Americans who gave their lives in the battle to protect Americas freedom.
