Math
By Owen Snyder and Sophia Pineiro
Today Sophia and Owen will teach the wondrous things Mrs. Smith has been teaching in math for the past two weeks. Hope you enjoy! We did a scavenger hunt and we had to measure the items on our checklist, like the distance around a tree and how long a leaf was. Then we would record what the measurement was on the paper. The hardest part was measuring the bug but luckily Mrs.Smith said that we only have to write an estimate. We thought that was sensible. One group got ½ an inch for the bug. This was a fun way to practice measuring using fractions. We also talked about conjectures and arguments. A conjecture is a hypothesis, but it is based on mathematical evidence. An argument is proving if a conjecture is true or not true. But not in a mean matter. We were given a math problem were we had to figure out how many chairs were arranged in a classroom. We were given five different clues. We had to make sure our conjecture fit all five of our clues. This was a challenge but fun task.
Reading
By Enis Mujde and Sasha Young
In reading, we read a fictional story called Dogzilla. Dogzilla is a book about and colony of mice that were attacked by a giant Dog, which was referred to as Dogzilla. Another thing we did in reading, was context clues. We had so much fun with context clues. We had different stations and played context clues games. We played different games like Who Makes Sense, ConTEXT clues, and Tic Tac Toe. We also did a context clues worksheet. Who Makes Sense was a game where you had to match words with sentences. THe person with the word that fit the sentence the best won the round. ConTEXT clues was a game where you had to find the definitions of words that were used in texts. Finally, Tic Tac Toe is the same but every time you pick a card you try to decide the meaning of the underlined word using the context. Then you put down an X or an O if you were correct. We hoped you liked our report on reading!
Social Studies
This week we did a lot of fun things like in social studies. We continued our landform projects and painted them. Our landforms are made out of salt dough. We also got to make a riddle about our landforms. The first thing that we did was planned the jobs that our groups where doing. Like who formed the landform, the details, and the animals. Then we molded our landforms to the landform that we our group chose. Some details that our groups designed were trees, bushes, flowers and tons more. The second step to make our landform projects was to mold them. Then, we let them dry overnight. We painted our landforms after two days of drying. We were able to paint the landform with acrylic paint. We used various colors such as yellow, red, blue, green, brown and orange. We hope that you enjoyed reading about our classes this week in school and about our social studies this week! We hope that you come to open house later this month to see our projects.
