What is Anemia?
Anemia is caused by having less red blood cells than normal. It is also caused by losing too much blood and not having enough Iron in your diet. Many children, pregnant women, and people who have cancer get this disease. On average 22 out of every million people die every year from Anemia.
What happens when somebody gets Anemia?
When somebody gets Anemia, they can look very pale because there is not enough blood in their body and they might be tired and less energized.
Children with Anemia
People without Anemia produce enough red blood cells while people with Anemia don't produce enough blood cells.
What does it look like?
Many people with Anemia look pale. Here is a picture of what somebody's skin looks like who doesn't have Anemia compared to someone who has Anemia.
Pregnant women with Anemia
Pregnant women can also have Anemia. Like children, they have fewer blood cells than an average human. Giving birth to a baby while having Anemia is life-threatening to the baby. The baby can get born early, which causes it to be smaller in size. It is very likely to have a miscarriage with this disease.
What can I do to help people with Anemia?
Anemia can be life-threatening. You can fight it by making sure you have enough Iron in your diets. If you start to notice somebody that is usually tired, weak, and/or fainting sometimes, please get them help and take them to the doctor.
