Smith Family Newsletter

We believe in the power of school and family partnerships.

Message from Ms. Rivera

Winter is definitely here, and although it is chilly outside, we are turning up the heat on learning in school! Our mid-year data shows that our students are making great strides academically. Every day when I walk the halls, I am so grateful for the amazing teachers and staff that we have. They constantly track student progress and make adjustments to reach every student on their level. They are the best!

As always, continue to support your child's learning at home. Click here to access Magnolia ISD's Curriculum Resources for Parents. In addition, attendance still matters. Of course, kids need to stay home if they are sick, but every day counts, so please make sure they get to school ready to learn on time each day.

Finally, we have a couple of exciting PTO events this month. To get involved with PTO, send an email to Check the "Upcoming Events" section for more information, and also visit our website, and follow us on Twitter @CedricSmithElem.

February Teacher of the Month

Our February Teacher of the Month is our beloved Ms. J! Ms. J is a veteran kindergarten teacher at Smith, and she is a leader on her team and also a leader on our campus. She makes a positive impact on our entire school culture, constantly organizing fun activities for the staff, and she volunteers for all sorts of events.

Ms. J is so loving to everyone and is always positive and upbeat. In addition to her wonderful personality, Ms. J is an exceptional educator. Her kids adore her, and she pushes every one of them to excel. I cannot say enough about Ms. J. She is amazing! Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

February Paraprofessional of the Month

Our February Paraprofessional of the Month is Johana Cantu. This is Mrs. Cantu's first year at Smith, but she was already a part of our family as a mother of two Smith students.

Mrs. Cantu is a fantastic team member. She is a hard worker, she has a positive attitude, and she can roll with the changes that happen every day. We can always count on her to jump in wherever help is needed, and she does a wonderful job working with our kids each day. We are so happy to have her at Smith! Congratulations, Mrs. Cantu!

Internet Safety

Each year, we have lessons about Internet Safety. It is scary that students can be exposed to so much with a simple click of a button. If your child has a device and is on social media, make sure they are using it safely and responsibly.
