From the Principal's Desk
Dear Lincoln Community,
As we approach the ever-hectic month of May, I wanted to bring a few things to your attention. First off, the week of May 6th is Teacher Appreciation Week (see flyer below). Our PTO has once again prepared a wonderful series of special treats to thank our staff. Though this recognition is greatly appreciated, nothing is as special as a word of thanks from students and parents. In that spirit, I ask you all to take a moment each day that week to send a kind word to your child's teachers thanking them for all they do for the children of our community. Please copy me on such messages as well as I like to share with the District Office.
While we are celebrating our staff the week of May 6th, students will be taking the spring MAP test Tuesday and Thursday mornings. These tests are very important for several reasons:
- We look to see if students achieved their annual growth targets in Reading and Math;
- We look to see who scored below the 40th percentile in determining if students need extra help in Reading or Math at the beginning of next school year; and
- 8th grade scores are sent to the High School, and are used to finalize course placements for next year.
Finally, speaking of 8th graders, we are no longer doing formal promotion pictures. Previously parents could order formal portraits of students in their gowns, but the number of orders had dwindled to next to nothing over the last few years, which made the effort not worth our while. There will be plenty of opportunity for pictures on Promotion day, the last day of school, Tuesday June 4th. Parents of 8th graders, please also check your email for information about ELF's Judith Snow Award given to two 8th graders who have been positive leaders in our community. They will be recognized at our awards ceremony on June 4th.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the spring weather.
Come out to cheer our D64 Special Olympics 2019 Team
D64 families and staff are invited to come and cheer for our D64 Special Olympics Team on Sunday, May 5, 2019. Opening ceremonies for the Track and Field Spring Games begin at 8 a.m.; competition events begin at 9 a.m. outdoors (on/around the track) at Prospect High School, 801 W. Kensington Rd., Mt. Prospect, IL 60056.
This year, D64’s team boasts seven students representing our two middle schools -- Emerson and Lincoln -- along with Field and Roosevelt. District 64 is very excited to offer our students the opportunity to participate and train as a team with their peers as part of the D64 Special Olympics Team. Our focus is not only to improve students’ physical skills, but also teach the athletes about competition, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Special Olympics is an organization that provides year-round athletic competitions, which encourages the athletes to demonstrate courage, develop physical fitness, and experience joy while sharing their skills. Special Olympics focuses on athletes’ abilities with the goal of fostering a sense of community amongst the athletes.
Please show your proud support for our D64 team!
Medication Pick-Up as School Ends.
If your child has been taking medication at school, please plan to pick up any remaining in the school health office on the last day of school, June 4, 2019. Medication not claimed by the last day of school will be discarded. Please do not pick up emergency medication prior to the last day of school.
Medication prescribed for use during the upcoming school year (2019-20) requires submission of a new Medication Authorization Form (and Allergy Action Plan and Asthma Action Plan, if applicable). Forms are available on the Health Services page of the District 64 website.
If your child is attending Worlds of Wonder or Extended School Year (ESY) you are responsible for transporting medication to the summer school location, and for picking it up at the end of the session(s).
Please call the Building Nurse in your child’s school health office if you have questions.
Best wishes for a safe, healthy, and happy summer!
