Whitford Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 37 - 25 November 2020
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we continue to pray, as a community for Nicole, Sean, Cian and Lucy McConnon, on the recent passing of Paul McConnon, please note the following funeral arrangements:
Our Year 6 students need to be congratulated on the amazing effort they put into ensuring success of the recent mini-fete which they organised last week. Their extensive planning of activities, commitment, personal contributions and enthusiasm was fabulous. The oval was a real hive of colourful activity, with a great vibe of fun all day. Thank you to the Year 6 teachers for supporting their students and to all children for participating so actively throughout the day. Raising $2599.15 was an awesome effort and I’m sure all monies raised will be put to a worthy St Vincent De Paul cause.

Class Transition Day - Monday 7th December
On Monday 7th December between 11am and 12pm, students from Kindy to Year 5 will spend time in the classes they will be going to in 2021. This will be a good opportunity for staff and students to meet each other and plan for next year.
Please be aware that we have a stringent process for allocating students to classes. The needs of all children are considered, with staff members liaising carefully to find an appropriate class balance based on specific criteria, including:
- academic needs
- special needs
- gender balance
- pastoral care and welfare needs
- social and emotional concerns, together with student relationships
Although we are sometimes nervous about change, planning for the future is always an exciting time and one that we do not take lightly, so please be assured that we have your child's best interest at heart. Thank you for your continued support of the staff in all that they do.

Everyone is invited to attend this great evening of song and joy. Kindy students will be kicking the festivities of this year with Jingle Bells. All students must be at school no later than 6.15pm, ready for a 6.20pm start. This year, students will sit with their class teachers in rows near the front of the stage area on the oval. Students will wear their sports uniform and decorate themselves with Christmas accessories (eg: Santa hat, flashing necklace, tinsel, etc.). The concert will conclude approximately 7.20pm. Students from Year 3 to Year 6 are also highly encouraged to attend with their families. It will be great to have everyone there!
Don't forget to start practicing the words of The Twelve Days Of Christmas for our massive community sing-a-long. Come dressed as your favourite characters from the song if you like. It is going to be wonderful!
I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Please send me an email (email@example.com).

MUSIC CLASS BOOKLIST: RECORDER
All students in Year 4, 5 and 6 will require a Recorder for their Music classes in 2021. Unfortunately this was not included on some booklists, however, having this instrument is a requirement. The Recorder is a wonderful instrument for beginning musicians because it makes learning and playing Music accessible to students of all abilities. Students this year are able to retain their Recorder for use next year. The Front Office has Recorders for sale, however, stock is very limited.

Traveling during the upcoming holidays?
As the end of the year approaches, some families may choose to leave Western Australia to travel to interstate or overseas destinations.
As the COVID-19 pandemic is constantly evolving, sometimes rapidly, I encourage you to evaluate the necessity and impact of planned travel over the upcoming Christmas holiday break. For example, the Western Australian state government requires overseas travellers to undertake mandatory quarantine in a Perth hotel at their own expense.
Should you wish to travel, I ask that you consult the following websites and contact numbers to inform yourself about border restrictions, exemptions and quarantine requirements:
Entry to Australia
Website: COVID-19: Entering Australia

TRAVEL EXEMPTION SUPPORT LETTERS: INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
Students who intend to travel to/from overseas destinations who are not listed in the Australian travel exemption categories will require two letters to support their applications to return to Australia:
1. A confirmation of enrolment letter from Lisa Rodgers, Director General of the Department of Education, Western Australia
2. A travel support letter from Dr Andrew Robertson, Chief Health Officer, Western Australia.
