Color Run 2018
We are looking for a few more volunteers for the Color Run. If you are interested OR willing and want a free t-shirt, please sign up at the link.
Student Visitors from the High School
If there are visitors from the high school (or any visitors), they need to checked in with a badge indicating they are a visitor. In addition, if students are in our building (CM's as well), these students need to be escorted by an adult to be supervised at all times. This is school board policy and has been put in place as a safety measure. If you have any questions, please let Dawn or Rachel know.
Fire Drills for the Remainder of this School Year
For the remainder of this year, we will inform staff when there is a planned drill. This will allow everyone to plan for drills and possibly recognize when one is not a drill since it is not announced.
SLO / PPG End of Year Planning
- STAR Testing completed by Fri, May 4.
- Begin finalizing and updating SLO & PPG.
- Submit through Google Classroom AND include your self rating of your SLO. Dawn/Rachel will need to hold end of the year meetings with those of you on Summary Year by May 25th. So, please submit your SLO/PPG with enough time for Dawn/Rachel to review before meeting with you.
Staffing Updates
Staffing Updates for 2018-19
*Please do not share any of the staffing updates with students. Thank you!
Kim Knuston- Moving to Lakeview Elementary
As we have previously shared, Kim Knuston is excited to explore teaching at the elementary level. So in the fall, Kim will be teaching at Lakeview Elementary. We will miss her dearly!
Sarah Bauhs- Teaching and Learning Coach at Muskego Lakes Middle School
A big congratulations to Sarah Bauhs who has been selected as the Teaching and Learning Coach for the 18-19 school year at Muskego Lakes Middle School. Sarah has shared that she will miss the classroom but is very honored to step into this role. Sarah puts students at the center of everything she does. She understands that all behavior is a form of communication, and she thrives in fostering students who advocate for their needs. Sarah understands the connection between relationships, engagement, and learning. She is eager to build upon her relationships in the building as she steps into this new role to ensure our students’ academic, behavior, and social-emotional learning needs are being met. Her vision is to make sure “MLMS is a place where students and staff are engaged and enjoy coming every day.”
Heather Goldberg- 8th Grade Science teacher at Muskego Lakes Middle School
In addition, due to an internal transfer request that had been submitted, Heather Goldberg will be joining the Bay Lane family, teaching 8th grade science. Heather comes to us from Lakeview where she taught for six years. She was part of the first personalizing learning cohort, and she excels at meeting students where they are to support individual learner needs. Heather loves collaborating with colleagues to learn and grow. Please join me in making Heather feel welcome. Her email address is heather.goldberg@muskegonorway.org if you would consider reaching out to her.Highly Functioning PLCs
PBIS
PBIS Pillars for Muskego Lakes Middle School
After seeking your input as staff members, we sought input from both students and families. The vote is in! Instead of Respectful, Responsible Community, our pillars for next year will be Musky P.R.I.D.E. which stands for Promoting Respect, Integrity, Determination and Engagement. Thanks in advance to the work the PBIS team will be doing this summer to prepare expectations for our new building!
Referral Data for March
We are excited to share that we have decreased our office referrals for both February and March (compared to last year). Check out the link to referral data for March with key takeaways.
If you were not part of the book study, Why Gender Matters, the participants contributed key takeaways that they learned from the book. So, thanks to Katie Schroeder, check out this link for valuable learning that may impact your approach to students.
Parent Engagement at Bay Lane
The focus of the Parent Engagement team has been centralized around the goal of improving the parent satisfaction survey results from a 3.95 to a 4.05. The 2017 mean was 3.95 and we grew to 3.99 (+.04). Even though we didn’t reach our goal, we did improve!!
Celebrations:
#1 My child’s learning is a high priority at this school. 4.10 to 4.17 (+.07)
#4 My family is treated with respect at this school. 4.09 to 4.17 (+.08)
#8 This school provides a safe environment for my
child to learn. 4.20 to 4.27 (+.07)
#11 The teachers, staff, and administration at this
school demonstrate a genuine concern for my child. 4.06 to 4.14 (+.08)
#14 The principal at this school is approachable
and reachable. 3.67 to 3.82 (+.15)
#15 The principal at this school is an effective leader. 3.61 to 3.82 (+.21)
#23 The amount of homework my child receives
is appropriate. 3.59 to 3.67 (+.08)
Specifically the team has been targeting: I regularly receive feedback from school staff on how well my child is learning from 3.74-3.82. In order to gauge this growth, we have been joining coffee with the principal sessions to gather qualitative and quantitative information from the parents attending. 15 parents thus far have given us data, that averaged out to 3.87, which if all parent data followed this trend, we would have met our goal. Some of the major feedback received from parents this year is:
Desire for communication to be streamlined
Parent feedback to be more than just behavior, but specific content
Upcoming topics of study
How to support their child’s learning
Academic accomplishments/struggles
Consistency between grade levels or at least 5-6, 7-8
Retake/Revision Form
Homework policy
Technology and Communication Formats Used (For example; blogs, Google slides, phone apps, IC messages, etc.)
Desire to be involved or invited into the classroom
Student share day (for example: Project showcase, student portfolios, community building activities)
Lunch with the students/staff
Volunteer in classroom (for example: reading with students, working on math, guest speaking)
In addition to joining these parent sessions, the team is currently planning ways to bring in parents more frequently. Here our some of the ideas:
Develop a parent technology night. Parents would be invited in to learn about, explore, and use some of the same technologies that our students use daily.
Communicate to teachers in the fall strategies to help foster parent engagement, as well as working to build the bridge between the PTO.
Thank you for your hard work in helping foster parent engagement here at Bay Lane. A huge thank you to the parent engagement for their work this year!!
