Principal's Corner
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Students did a wonderful job during our Fire Drill on Tuesday! It was an impressive thing to see over 600 people silently exit the building and wait for instructions. Creekside has worked hard to practice drills so that we will be prepared in the event of a real emergency, and I'm so proud of our teachers and students for the work they do.

Please talk to your students about next week's Ribbon Week activities. It will be a fun week with Olympic-themed activities each day encouraging safety.
During Ribbon Week:
- Students may NOT "dress up" in costumes.
- Students MAY wear something associated with the theme. For example, you can wear a Denver Broncos t-shirt on Sports Team day or a Wonder Woman shirt on Super Hero day, but you may not "dress up."
Thank you for all you do!
Stay Connected!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schow
Get Ready for the Weather!
Weather forecasts are calling for colder and wetter conditions next week. Thank you for sending your students in clothing appropriate for the weather. Students will be outside before school and during recess except when temperatures are less than 20 degrees including wind chill or as determined by the principal.
Halloween
Expectations:
- No weapons or fake weapons
- No masks
- No face paint of any kind
- No costumes that display words, images, or content that violate district or school policy
- If students are not in compliance, parents will be called and student will be brought to the office to change what's not in compliance (or have parent pick up, depending on offense)
District Guidelines for Halloween:
- Be Respectful: Avoid stereotypes. Be racially sensitive and culturally appropriate. Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural groups (i.e., a Mexican, a Geisha, a Native American, etc.). Skin color must not be altered in any way.
- Be Responsible: Recognize that students in a wide age range will see the costumes. Costumes should be family friendly. Masks may not be worn. Costumes may not be gory or threatening. No make-up is allowed.
- Be Safe: No hand-held accessories real or pretend (i.e., wands or weapons) are allowed. Crown or hats may be worn.
- Be Kind: Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political, or offensive.
- Be Understanding: Students may dress up as fictional characters if they follow the above guidelines.
- Be Timely: All celebrations should be limited in time and held at the beginning or end of the school day.
- Please note: Dressing up as Pocahontas or other Native American Leaders is inappropriate. Culture is not a costume. In respect to the Native American view, please advise students to refrain from dressing up as Native Americans (i.e., Pocahontas, Sacagawea, Sitting Bull, etc.). This is cultural appropriation and is unacceptable.
Thank you for taking the time to ensure students are following the guidelines with their costumes. We want to make sure that we maintain a fun and appropriate environment for all students. We also want our celebrations to be a positive experience that leads to a building up of community rather than division. These guidelines were shared with our school's Community Council and approved.
Thank You for Working to Keep Creekside Accessible!
Please only use the accessible parking spaces if you have the required parking permit displayed in your vehicle.
If you utilize the drop-off/pick-up lane in front of the school, thank you for remembering to keep the crosswalk clear. It is imperative that we keep our building accessible to all students, staff, and visitors. If someone parks in the accessible parking spot, they need to be able to access the school via the crosswalk and accessible ramp. Thank you for Being Kind!
