A Message From the Nurse Coordinator
Hello families,
No need to throw expired covid test kits away. The test kit expiration dates have been extended by the FDA. The ones we have that expired in December are now good to some time in March and others in April. Depending on the type of kit it may expire on other dates so everyone should check the type of kit and the lot numbers and go from there. We still have plenty of kits in the district. Feel free to call the main office...203-24-5400.

Setting Goals
This month, as we begin the new year, we consider some of the goals we might have! Deciding on a goal can help us stay focused as we work to grow.
This year, our kindergarten students have been working hard on mastering their ability to identify all of the letters in the alphabet and the sounds they make. This will help them move towards being able to decode words (which is saying each sound and blending those sounds together to read the word). Most recently, they have begun practicing decoding simple CVC words (ex: cat).
Our 1st grade students have been working hard to be able to decode a variety of words. We have moved from CVC words (ex: cat), to words with blends (ex: flag), and now are learning to decode silent-e words (ex: cake)!
In 2nd grade, students have also been working hard on decoding. They have been learning how to decode words where “c” and “g” make their less common sounds (ex: dice, cage), words with silent letters (ex: climb) and are now learning to decode words with vowel teams (ex: feet).
You can help support your child’s growth in literacy at home by looking for words in books that have the patterns they are learning. You can also create sentences together to practice writing the words they have been learning!
Enjoy the journey!
