Identify 6 to 7 classrooms to visit (we will spend about 6 to 8 minutes in each), and determine the Instructional Framework domain(s) you want to examine (ideally environment or instruction).
We will conduct a debriefing session at the end of our time together.
We will tell you the classes we will visit. Math will mostly likely be our focus.
Report card reminders
Multicultural Night is here!
On Thursday, January 30, 2019 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Mary Scroggs Elementary School will hold its annual international festival. All members of the school community are invited to provide displays, music, dance, materials, activities and/or foods of their homeland so that our children may learn more about our world’s diverse cultures.
All of our students and families will be encouraged to experience intercontinental travel and international delights as they move throughout the school’s hallways.
You can help by volunteering to assist in the setup of a display from your native land.
Displays may include (but are not limited to):
slide shows
music
food
crafts art clothing
dance games instruments
photographs, literature, poetry
You can help by volunteering to assist in the setup of a display from your native land.
Test Dates for NC Check-ins
Math and Reading NC Check-Ins will be administered next week. These do require accommodations so many additional staff members will be needed. The assessments take approximately 90 minutes.
Math dates
- grade 3 - Tuesday, January 28 @ 8:00
- grade 4- Wednesday, January 29 @ 8:00
- grade 5- Thursday, January 30 @ 9:00
Reading dates
- grade 3 (TE 21)- Friday, January 31 @ 8:00
- grade 4- Thursday, January 30 @ 8:00
- grade 5- Wednesday, January 29 @ 9:00
Classroom teachers:
Have a conversation with your students as to how the NC Check In is different than the MOY i-Ready Math Diagnostic - The NC Check In is assessing grade level content only. For most grade levels and standards, students have been explicitly instructed on these standards. IF you have a standard that was not fully addressed yet, please share this with students. We want students to put forth their best effort and to feel confident in what they do know.
Please have copies of anchor charts ready for separate setting students. If you are departmentalized, please make sure that the other classrooms have anchor chart materials available to them (either student copies for tables or posters for your colleagues to display).
Computers will need to be set up in advance so the 8:00 students will need to report to the cafeteria on testing days.
Calculators, graph paper and blank paper should be provided for all students. It is important that students be encouraged to show their great thinking in an organized way.
Thanks for all you do to encourage and lift your students up! Testuary is almost finished!
Weather for the week!

Teacher Appreciation event at the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament
This Teacher Appreciation event at the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament is a special ticket opportunity for your faculty/staff and families to take part in to celebrate teachers and educators in our communities.
The best part about this program is that a) this special ticket opportunity requires no upfront investment by our partnering schools to participate in the program, b) requires no minimum number of tickets purchased in order to participate, and c) gives your school a chance to reward faculty/staff and families with preferred pricing to some of the biggest games in women’s college basketball!
Below is an example of the flyer you will receive to share with faculty, staff, and families to participate in the game. Again, the flyer below is just an example of what the flyer will look like and is not the final flyer. As mentioned during our earlier call, our marketing team will design a flyer specifically for your school (and QR code) once we receive your logo to participate.
Here's what the program includes:
- Teacher Appreciation Day at the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament Semifinals (Saturday, March 7th @ 12pm and 2:30pm)
- Teacher Appreciation Ticket Price: Only $7 per person
- Pregame High Five Tunnel – The first 30 people to secure their seats will be brought down on the court to high-five the players as they run on the court during team introductions!
- Postgame On-Court Photo – The next 100 people to secure their seats will have on-court access after the game for a group photo to commemorate the event!
Note: Spots in the pregame/postgame experiences are available on a first-come-first-served basis. THESE WILL SELL OUT. Teacher Appreciation Day tickets officially go on-sale on Monday, February 3rd at 12PM, so make sure to get your group together now!
Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything. We’re excited to be partnering with your school and your educators at this year’s Teacher Appreciation Day at the ACC Championships!
