4th Grade Field Trip to the State Capitol

On Friday, November 13th, the fourth grade classes from Northlake Christian School (NCS) visited the Louisiana State Capitol building in Baton Rouge, LA. The students were hosted by former Louisiana State Representative, Diane Winston, who is the grandmother of one of our fourth grade students, Phoenix Bigler. Mrs. Winston served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1996-2008.

The tour of the Capitol building began in the Rotunda where the students were welcomed by Mrs. Winston and the official tour guide. The students viewed the beautiful art and statues that are a tribute to our amazing Louisiana history. Next, the students viewed the Louisiana House of Representatives and were welcomed by our school name being lit up on the House floor’s voting board. Mrs. Winston introduced the classes to former Speaker of the House and current Deputy Secretary of the State, Joe Salter. Deputy Salter spoke to the classes about the importance of voting and discussed the role of the House of Representatives in our government. After learning about this part of our government, the students were escorted to the House Committee room where Senior House Staff Member, Greg Riley presented a video based on how bills are passed and then the students took part in the mock election for a bill. Students were divided into two groups and each group had two NCS Student Senate leaders present an argument for or against the bill. From there the students voted on the bill. After the mock voting, the students were presented with certificates making them an Honorary Members of the House or Representatives and given small pins of the Louisiana State Capitol.

Next on the tour, the students viewed the Louisiana State Capitol Press Room and took pictures. Following these pictures, the students viewed the Governor’s Chamber and were photographed with House of Representative, Mr. John Schroder. Representative Schroder talked with the classes about the branches of the government and how a representative’s job is to represent the people of the state. Representative Schroder was very kind and generous to our students and even gave the classes ice cream at lunch time.

We are so thankful for the time that each of our government officials took in making this an unforgettable field trip, and we give a big thank you to Mrs. Diane Winston for making this all possible.

NCS Annual Fund

Dear Northlake families,

You should have received a mail-out recently asking you to contribute to Northlake Christian School's Annual Fund. I hope you had a chance to read over the material and gain a full understanding of what the annual fund entails. We recognize and appreciate the financial sacrifice families make to send their children to NCS, but please realize that tuition alone does not cover all of our needs, especially substantial improvements such as our new Middle School and the technology infrastructure needed to support our school-wide 1-1 iPad program. Please take a moment to watch THIS VIDEO created by our students which highlights these strategic initiatives. Our vision for Northlake has never wavered and that is "to integrate faith and learning to provide the best education and experience for your child so they can impact the world for Christ." You are helping us achieve that vision when you give or pledge to give to our annual fund. For more information about how the annual fund benefits your student, CLICK HERE.

Your support and prayers along with the faculty and staff are the heart of the ministry of NCS. Paul urges us in Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Please continue to pray for God to use Northlake mightily.

In closing, I ask you to prayerfully consider what you can give and where you can serve. You can go to the school website under "Giving" to donate online or you can mail in the envelope from the annual fund brochure. There is no gift too big or too small to make an eternal difference in the lives of the children that NCS serves. Thank you always for your support, and let us continue to give God the glory for all He has done and will continue to do at Northlake Christian School.

For His Glory,

Monty Fontenot
Head of School
