Pennies for Patients
Dear Parents and Students of PHSC,
During the next four months, the National Honor Society will be collecting spare change and other donations to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the Pennies for Patients Campaign. Central has been participating in this fundraiser for 10 years and the generosity of the Pickerington Community has been astounding. With this being our 10 year “anniversary”, we are hoping to make this our biggest contribution yet.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a voluntary health organization which prides itself on the immense amount of support it gives to the funding of blood cancer research, providing education and patient services and its relentless pursuit in finding the cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. In the time since the Society was founded, it has invested more the $550 million in blood cancer research. In 2007 alone, $67.7 million was invested and 5.1 million contacts with patients, caregivers and healthcare professional were made. Our participation in the Pennies for Patients campaign assists LLS in reaching their goal and helping many central Ohio families live a more “normal” life.
We are asking for your donation of spare change to assist local families who are affected by blood cancers. There are multiple ways to participate!
- Members of NHS will be walking around school with containers to collect spare change and any other monetary donations. Even the smallest donation will help.
- If you would like to donate more than spare change, checks can be made payable to LLS and sent with your student to school or mailed to:
Pickerington Central, 300 Opportunity Way, Pickerington OH, 43147
attention Heather Peirano.
- Donate online at http://www.studentseries.org Please choose our school from the drop-down menu.
Remember all donations are tax deductible! Thank you for your support and generosity.
Sincerely, Brayden Harlor (NHS President)
Caroline Reyes (NHS Vice President)
Heather Peirano (NHS Advisor)
Counseling Corner
Happy New Year!
Second Semester is off to a busy start for the Counseling office!
Students who need a schedule correction need to click on the schedule correction form that can be found in Infinite Campus messages. The last day to request a schedule correction is January 22nd.
Students who need an appointment with their counselor for other reasons besides a schedule correction can request to see their counselor through the individual request to see your counselor form found in their student email and on Infinite Campus messages.
Mid-Year Transcripts
Seniors who applied to college may need to request that their 7th semester or mid-year transcript be sent to their colleges. To have these sent, Seniors need to complete the transcript request form found in the counseling office and turn it in to Ms. Saum.
Scheduling for 2019-2020
On January 29th at 6:30 pm in the PHSC Performing Arts Center, there will be a parent meeting to learn about scheduling for next school year, including information on graduation requirements, new classes offered, explanations of career pathways offered, AP vs. CCP classes, and an opportunity to talk to subject area teachers about curriculum. Students will receive additional information on our school- wide scheduling day on the two hour delay intercession day on February 6th. Class selections will be due on Infinite Campus Student Portal by February 14th.
AP Testing
AP Exams will be May 6-May 17, 2019. Any AP student who does not want to take their AP exam needs to complete the form in the school counseling office. These forms will be available until January 31. Beginning February 1, 2019 any AP exam that is canceled will be charged a $15 unused test fee. Questions regarding AP testing contact Jennifer Dashner (School Counselor) or Susan Caudill (Assistant Principal).
Career Center Applications
Any sophomore interested in attending the Career Center next year must complete an application found at http://www.eastlandfairfield.com/HowtoApply.aspx. Applications are due February 7th.
ACT
All juniors will be able to take a free official ACT test during the school day on February 20th. Students do NOT need to register to take this test. Any junior who wants to take the ACT multiple times will need to register at ACTstudent.org. Please remember that Naviance https://student.naviance.com/phsc offers free ACT practice. Students are encouraged to log in to their Naviance account and practice at least an hour a week between now and the test date.
Why do Juniors need to take the ACT?
•Many colleges require that students submit an ACT or SAT score with their college applications.
•Many colleges offer merit scholarships to students with certain ACT scores and GPA’s.
(For example: http://www.shawnee.edu/offices/financial-aid/merit-scholarships/ )
•The ACT serves as a placement test for many CCP classes, which students will have the opportunity to schedule in February for next school year.
•Remediation free scores on the ACT is an alternative to the State AIR testing for Ohio Graduation requirements. (English-18, Reading-22, Math-22)
