Destination Imagination

Do you know about Destination Imagination? Would you like to learn about this exciting program that is sponsored by the Gifted and Talented Department that engages our students in fun, hands-on learning? For the past couple years our Redhawks have participated in the Destination Imagination Program and can attest to the fact that the program encourages students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended challenges in the fields of fine arts, service learning, and STEM - science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Last year we had two teams who represented us at the district level. This year, we want to offer more students the opportunity to engage in this parent-facilitated event. We need parents who are willing to serve as Team Managers to guide the efforts of 5-7 students. The Gifted and Talented Department will offer training on September 23, 2019, for parents who want to serve as Team Managers or Assistant Team Managers. For more information, please contact Mrs. Sherry Johnson our GT/DI Campus Liaison at sherry.johnson@cfisd.net.

Safety Drills Practice

On Tuesday, September 17, we will be practicing our safety drills at Rennell right after our morning announcements so students will know what to do in case of an emergency. We use the Standard Response Protocols pictured below so our students are familiar with the terminology used in schools across the country and will know what to do. The biggest thing we will be teaching our students to remember in an emergency is to look to their teachers and follow instructions. Our first priority is student safety - both body and mind - so, while we are practicing these drills so that we will be prepared in the event of an emergency, we will not be discussing any specific scary scenarios.

Library Update

BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB sign up only thru Sept 31! Don't miss out!

Would you like to make your child's birthday SOARRR!!! Then sign them up for the Birthday Book Club! All students who are part of the club get to select a birthday book from our library on their birthday! They get a picture with their book and have a special label placed inside so that everyone will remember their birthday! All birthday books must be returned by the end of the year. However, your child will be remembered as long as the book is in the library. Celebrate your child! Sign up on School Cash Online or send a check made to Rennell Library for $20.60. All funds earned will be used to purchase new books and author visits for the library.

Library Book Policies

All students will check out library books this week! Students in Grades PK, K, and First will get one book and all other grades will get two a week. Students will be expected to return them every week or renew them in the library in the morning of their checkout day. If a book is damaged or lost they will be responsible for paying for the book. Please contact Mr. Palomares if there are extenuating circumstances. Thanks for all you do! We are looking forward to an amazing school year in the library! Stay tuned for more exciting information!

Art Supply Request

We are collecting cardboard cereal, snack, cake and other boxes for an art project (not packaging boxes). The cardboard should not be broken down and folded, as the original box will be covered in paper and re-imagined. Boxes can be dropped off in the art room or brought to the front office. Thank you for your support!
