Glenholme School Newsletter
Week 2, Term 3, Thursday 5th August 2021
Kia ora koutou,
Congratulations to all our Whakapoungakau Team artists!!!
Yesterday we had a very special occasion at Te Kura O Nga Raupareparenga. The opening of our ‘Stories Through Glass’ Exhibition. This exhibition is a celebration of the creative talents of all of our tamariki in year 5 and year 6. Our tamariki have had the opportunity to tell their own stories using materials that they would not usually be exposed to and also to learn the science involved in the process.
We were fortunate to be joined by Ngati Whakaue Kaumatua, Margot Nielsen from the Ministry of Education and Fisher Wang who represented our Mayor Stevie Chadwick from Rotorua Lakes Council and also our Board Representative Jenny Packham for the opening ceremony.
We need to thank Jayne Baume, Kylie Laxton-Blinkhorn and Donna Burns for the many hours they put into planning this project and applying for the funding for it to go ahead. Without their skill and efficiency completing all of the paper work our tamariki would not have had this one in a lifetime opportunity.
The exhibition will be open until 5.00pm tonight in A4 if you have not already had the opportunity to go and view it.
A huge thank you to the talented artist, Jayne Baume who has inspired and guided our tamariki to produce such amazing artwork over the last two terms.
NMSSA - National Monitoring Study of Student Achievement
A randomly selected group of Year 4 tamariki will be involved with the NMSSA (National Monitoring Study of Student Achievement) testing next week on Monday 9th, Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th August. The testing will take place in an allocated classroom. Parents and whanau of the selected tamariki were notified last term and a letter sent home with all the information. This year the study looks at children's skills and knowledge in the arts, technology, and learning languages. A registered teacher, Rachel McKay who works for NMSSA, will work with the students over the three days. All children will be asked to complete some written tasks and they will also fill in a questionnaire. Some children will take part in some group activities, and in an interview. All activities are developed so that tamariki will enjoy doing them and will have some success. Rachel McKay the NMSSA teacher will hold a hui in the staffroom on Monday 9th August at 3.00pm for half an hour for any parents, whanau, teachers and staff that are interested in finding out more.
