A Quick Note from Mrs. Park

It's Red Ribbon Week at TBK8! We choose to live healthy lives and to be kind to others!

Help your child participate in Red Ribbon week by following our special calendar:

Monday - Wear Camo to support the FIGHT against drugs and bullies!

Tuesday - Wear Red, White and Blue to show that you are drug free!

Wednesday - Crazy sock day!

Thursday - Wear red to show you're bully free!

Friday - Book O Ween -- dress as a character in a book and bring your book with you to march in the parade!

Check out our door in this week's photos -- all student-made (with just a little help from Mrs. Park ...)

In Science we're been measuring the volume of liquids and observing how the same volume liquid can look very different depending on its container. This week we will be learning to measure and record temperature. All properties of matter!

In Math, we are continuing to practice basic math facts to 20, write our own story problems with matching equations, and to master different strategies to solve problems. We are also learning to make arrays and solve repeated addition of equal groups. We'll be completing this unit soon so we'll be reviewing this week and preparing for the test!

In Language Arts, we are learning about figurative language -- similes, metaphors, onomatopeia, hyperbole, and personification. (What a mouthful!) We are also using figurative language in our writing!

STEM UNIT: How does structure in a community create a positive impact?

We are wrapping up our STEM unit on Structure. Our buildings are nearly completed and we are working on presenting how our structures -- medical, business, residential, recreational, public service and governmental -- benefit the community.

The Great American Teach-In is right around the corner. We would like to have another successful year by having many diverse speakers. In order to meet this goal, we need you! You can volunteer to speak to your child's class, multiple classes, or even the school. Your job is simply speak about your profession to our students at TBK8. If you would like to create a presentation or plan an activity to explain your career, please do. The Great American Teach-In is Thursday, November 17th. Please fill out the form your child's teacher sent home last week and return it before November 3rd. We appreciate your help in having a successful event this year.
