Wonder Hour!
This week I wanted to encourage you to ask your child about "Wonder Hour". Our campus will be starting Wonder Hour for one hour each Friday during the 19-20 school year. KES Wonder Hour will be a time that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school. As a learning model our Wonder Hour will focus on inquiry, research, creativity and self-directed learning. Students will have input and voice in what they study, how they study it, and what they produce or create as a result. This time will be more guided as we start the year in our primary grades and then develop as the year progresses. Our goals for Wonder Hour will be to help create life-long learners and a love for learning. In addition we feel this time will help develop relationships and allow teachers to learn more about student’s areas of personal interest. Finally, this hour includes the instructional practice of 21st century skills that focuses on the 4 C’s of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. We are excited about beginning this opportunity for our staff and students here at Kendall and look forward to growing as we develop this idea. Be sure and ask your child what they are wondering about!
· Note from the Cafeteria: Ice Cream will start being sold each Wednesday. This year our campus ice cream day will be each Wednesday. This will begin next Wednesday, August 28. The ice cream will be $1.00. We also want to welcome our new cafeteria manager, Ju Gomez. We are excited to welcome Mr. Gomez. Please reach out to him if you have any questions.
· Parent Orientations will be held on Tuesday, August 27th for 4th and 5th grades and Tuesday, September 3 for PK-3rd grades. During this night, the teachers will review classroom learning organization and procedures, homework expectations, parent communication methods, and much more. We would ask that this be a parent only night for you to have time with your child’s teachers.
· As a reminder our school day for this year will be 7:35-3:00. The building will open each morning at 7:05 to get ready for the day. Please do not drop off your children before 7:05, as there will not be staff on duty to monitor the students. Thank you as well for your patience and support as we continue to implement new additions for safety to our parent pick up area. Every parent either picking up students from their car or parking to pick up their student will need a KES parent pick up sign. Having your child ride the bus or be picked up in your car are the safest pick up options.
Have a great weekend!
