Where our Monomoy students are 'fin'tastic!
OCTOBER 21, 2016
18,150 'Fin'tastic observed acts of Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Ready To Learn actions = Friendly "Dress Up DAY" at HES! With 6 TEAM SHARKS placed in our "WE ARE 'FIN'TASTIC" Shark Tank. we celebrate together our hard work and effort!!
They understood that we have the youngest population in school and during their classroom visits on Friday, encouraged the students to be creative, but dress up in a friendly and non-violent manner with outfits that show their faces.
Kindergarten has choosen the theme of "FUN HAT DAY" but other ideas include dressing up as your favorite:
- Sea (hint sharks?) or Land Creature
- Famous Person
- Sports Team
- Superhero
- Food Item or Object
NOTE: SCHOOL COLORS or HES/MONOMOY gear is always appropriate on "School Spirit Days"!
Thanks for your cooperation and support.
"Music Counts Every Day" at HES - The Composer and Composition that we will be listening to every morning as we get the day started at HES next week will be Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens.
The music this week has a Halloween theme and was suggested by Ms. Cook. Thanks for the great suggestion.
During the years that Saint-Saëns was composing, many beautiful buildings (including the Eiffel Tower), churches and instruments were being built in France. The compositions that Saint-Saëns is most known for include Carnival of the Animals, Danse Macabre and his Symphony No. 3, which features an organ just like the ones that were being built at that time.
Danse Macabre is a spooky piece of music that depicts an old French superstition.
On Halloween night, skeletons dance to the music of a violin. Here, Saint-Saëns uses the xylophone to imitate the sound of their rattling bones! The skeletons dance all night long until dawn; when they must return to their resting places.
The question this week is: Does the xylophone have wood or metal bars?
Answers will again be worth 2 drops/bubbles…………..
The answer to last week's question is: the clarinet.

Anna Melillo - Kindergarten Classroom Teacher (featured in previous edition)
Becky Tobojka - Kindergarten Classroom Teacher
I grew up in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey with my three sisters and brother.
Thanks to my parents I enjoyed a very carefree childhood filled with imaginative play, opportunities to camp on a piece of property we called "our mountain," participated on local softball, soccer and basketball teams and discovered the love of reading during weekly Saturday visits to our town library (my mom let each of us kids pick out 10 books)!!!
I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English in 1983 from The State University of New York at Cortland.
I have been married for twelve years to a man who makes me laugh everyday!!!
Teaching Kindergarten at H.E.S. with my wonderful assistant Mrs. Tansey is a joyful experience. When the children arrive each morning we feel as if they are our little "gifts."
When I'm not at school you may find me running, gardening, cooking, reading, writing, kayaking or planning the next GREAT ADVENTURE!!!
Kathryn Shanon - Kindergarten Classroom Teacher
My passion for teaching started when I attended high school at Southeastern Technical High School, where I was afforded the opportunity to take childhood development classes and working at the school’s preschool. After high school I received my bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship from Johnson and Wales University and an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Massasoit Community College. In May of 2011, I graduated from American International College with a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education.
In my spare time I enjoy going fishing in Cape Cod Bay, hiking, snowboarding, cooking/baking and spending time with my family and friends. I like to stay active by participating in power yoga classes and running.
