Week of October 4 - October 8
Welcome from Interim Principal Bivins
The school year is off to a great start and we have many things to look forward to this fall! I am Emily Bivins, interim principal for North Chatham Elementary and I look forward to working in partnership with you and your child. I will work with the School Improvement Team and Parent Teacher Association as quickly as possible so I can best support the school. I plan to send weekly communications through the Sunday evening telephone and email service.
I am a retired educator with over thirty years of experience in North Carolina Public Schools. I have been an elementary teacher, assistant principal, principal and central office administrator. Most recently, I retired from Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools with fifteen years of experience as a dual language leader at Carrboro Elementary and Frank Porter Graham Bilingüe. I currently volunteer on the North Carolina Dual Language advisory and am an adjunct professor at East Carolina University in the dual language administrator certification program.
I grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and attended public schools throughout my grades 1-12 education. I am a graduate of Wake Forest University, Elon University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have a bachelors in elementary education, masters in elementary education and school administration and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. I am married and have three children, ages 18, 16, 15. I enjoy boating, swimming, hiking and reading. I am also a puzzle fiend!
I am passionate about public education and seek to work collaboratively with families to ensure the success of every child. I believe in educating the whole child with emphasis on high academic achievement, physical, social and emotional development. Children should love learning and see its relevance in their everyday lives.
I appreciate your warm welcome and can ensure that I will support the school in maintaining its excellent reputation in the community until a permanent replacement can be found. I look forward to meeting your children and you in the coming weeks. Feel free to reach out to communicate with me.
