The Musselwhite Memo
Happy Monday, AMS families! I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We are looking forward to a busy few weeks as we wrap up this semester!
We have a few opportunities to help us celebrate our staff members! First, we are seeking small gifts for our annual trivia game - candles, gift cards, lotion, really any small trinket would be great! Please drop any donations off in the front office by Friday, December 10. Next, our awesome PTO is seeking volunteers to sponsor a staff member. Please click here
to help!
Also, as part of our student recognition program, we are accepting nominations for Community Champions. Each month we celebrate students who are making a difference in our community (outside of school). To nominate a student, please click the link below!
As always, thank you for your ongoing support of AMS! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out! Remember to be the difference and have a great Bearcat day!
AMS Cross Country Shout Out
On Thursday, November 4, a group of AMS cross country runners hit the road for the Middle School Cross-Country Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. The competition took place on Saturday, November 6. Runners from all over the country attended to participate in the MileSplit run. From AMS, XC representatives were eighth-grade runners Dominick Barrera, Sofia Brandenburg, Elizabeth Griffin, Madison Larsen, Mykel Murry, and Sadie Williams; also in attendance were seventh-grade runners Mayden Mitchell and Micah Neal. Having this opportunity to represent AMS was a great experience for the team members. Mayden Mitchell said, “I think that the best part of Kentucky was being able to spend time with each other before our race and do our school work together.” The race was a challenge, especially in the 30-degree cold weather. According to Sofia Brandenburg, the most difficult part of the race was “running in really cold weather really early in the morning!” Mykel Murry summed it up by stating, “The best part of this experience was getting to travel together and achieving this goal that we worked for all season long.”
Medals were awarded to the top 25 finishers overall in each race, the top 10 receiving an additional medal. In the Boys Championship, Dominick Barrera medaled sixteenth overall and fourth for the Texas runners. In the Girls Championship, Madison Larsen received two medals, finishing ninth overall and first for Texas. Micah Neal and Mykel Murry also received medals, finishing eleventh and twenty-first overall and second and third for the Texas runners respectively. Rounding out the remaining Texas runners, Mayden Mitchell received fourth place, Elizabeth Griffin fifth place, and Sophia Brandenburg sixth place. Of the seventh-grade runners, Micah Neal brought home first place with Mayden Mitchell bringing home second. The AMS XC runners placed second overall as a team and received a team medal to add to their individual medals. All of the AMS runners stated that the experience helped them learn to work as a team and to achieve their goals. Sadie Williams said, “The best part of the experience was being able to travel together as a team and support each other every step of the way.” XC runner Elizabeth Griffin added, “Traveling with the team was a blessing, and I would love to do it again.” Micah Neal summed up the event with, “I think the most difficult part of the experience was being out in the 30-degree weather, but it was an amazing experience.”
The AMS Journalism Staff congratulates our XC team members who represented AMS with greatness!
