Purpose of Tier 2 and Tier 3
As a reminder, the purpose of tier 2 and tier 3 intervention is to fill in skill gaps. This means teaching below grade level TEKS and foundational skills (instructional level) to students in order for students to better access tier 1 learning.
Utilizing Middle of the Year assessment to guide RTI conversations
I have had the opportunity to participate in RTI meetings on multiple campuses and have heard teachers sharing the progress students are making and seeing the growth on the middle of the year assessment. For some students, there have been conversations about how to adjust intervention utilizing the updated assessment to meet the needs of the students. It is evident there are great conversations taking place utilizing data.
So what is Tier 1 intervention?
Differentiation - is varied, good instruction for all students (content, process, product) Intervention - is something we do to help a student master specific skill/content once data has shown a need So what is Tier 1 Intervention Students identified from data (universal screening, formative assessment) Small group Additional targeted, direct reteach within the course of Tier I instruction Opportunity to close gaps
