Message from the Principal: Week of 11/18/19
Dear PRT Family,
I’m loving the way the weather has turned from the start of the week’s January-like pattern…but it is that time of year! This past week we had our school-wide spelling bee, a couple girls’ basketball games, the Baker Jazz Band festival, and even hosted a charitable event from the KindCraft Organization where several of our KAY club students participated and helped put together over 10,000 meals for those in need…wow! On Saturday, our robotics team with Mrs. Eker will compete at Center High School. Our Cyber Patriots team will participate in a competition remotely at ONW on Saturday as well to cap off a busy week. I’m so proud of our students’ dedication and drive in all these programs.
Next week our 6th grade class will get the opportunity our 7th and 8th graders had last year and get to hear KC Wolf (Dan Meers) speak on the “ABCs of Character”. The Monday assembly will be a blend of fun, funny, and valuable info. Monday will be a Chiefs spirit day in recognition of our special guest, but also because it will actually be a Red Monday with the Chiefs vs Chargers in Mexico City.
Finally, next week will be the long-awaited Frozen Jr. Musical performances. First performance will be Tuesday when we host our students and elementary feeder schools. Thursday and Friday we’ll have a 7pm show, with 11am and 2pm Saturday performances. I’m so proud (and in awe) of our students who have worked so hard in preparing, rehearsing, constructing, etc. for the Frozen Jr. performance. I hope you can come out and see the show…it’ll be great.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend and week ahead and opportunity to enjoy this nice weather as much as you can.
Until next time.
Rick

A BIG SHOUT OUT!!!
Thank you to all the PRT Parents and Community for bringing Sonic drinks to Staff! This thoughtful gesture made our day!
$$$ Raised for Homes for Our Troops--Awesome Job, PRT!
Coming Soon: Service Day for All PRT Students!
Teaser: The PRT KAY club is organizing a spring-time event for all students to participate in a "day of service" in the community. This all-school event would be a first for PRT.
First brought up to parent site council a couple weeks ago, parents were excited for this opportunity as we are here in the building. Stay tuned for more details and ways you can help us pull this off!
Mock Interviews a Great Success!
ANNUAL PRT FOOD DRIVE
Next week is the annual food drive. Please encourage your kids to bring donations...we are aiming for an average of 2 per student. If students bring items to your room instead of to the MPR table before school, let me know and I'll send a student to tally them and bring them to our collection site. This year the kids voted for a grade level competition, and the grade level with the highest donation average per student will win a Husky Time party.
RED MONDAY: KC WOLF VISIT
On Monday, 11/18, KC Wolf will be back in the building! This is a 6th grade-only event that will occur from 8:45-9:40 (2nd hour). KC Wolf will discuss the ABCs of Character, which our 7th and 8th grade students received last year. I’m excited for our 6th graders to hear the Wolf and his presentation.
CURRENT 6th and 7th Grade Parents...SAVE THE DATE!
Mark you calendar for January 16th at 7pm for FUTURE 7th and 8th grade parents to hear about the enrollment process. This meeting will share details about enrolling for the 20-21 school year which occurs early in semester 2. Stay tuned, more details to come!

ICYMI: 21st Century Open House
Draft 21st Century Application:
Follow the link below for the draft application for the 21st century academies. Students will also need to begin asking teachers if they would be willing to complete a recommendation for the student.
http://schools.olatheschools.com/buildings/21stcentury/onlineapplication1/
The application will open on Nov 25th at 8am and close on Dec 10th at 10pm
Students need to be prepared to COPY AND PASTE their essay’s and teacher emails into the online application. The online app will time out after about 15-20 minutes but the user won’t know it. So it is important for the students to get their info in quickly and submit.
If they are applying to two academies, they will need to answer the questions for both in the same text box….that might mean two different paragraph answers in the same text box. Only submit ONE application.

ATTENTION PARENTS
Parents, do you know about the app “YOLO” that is becoming extremely popular for teens and tweens?
If your kids have Snapchat, you’re going to want to read more about this app…
Even though it’s fairly new, it’s making an impact on cyber bullying in a big way (…because posts are all completely anonymous.)

Important Influenza information
The Johnson County Department of Health states that if a student is diagnosed with influenza, the student needs to stay home for 5 days from the onset of symptoms. Student must also be 24 hours fever free (without the aid of medication). This recommendation is for adults as well.

- The front drive is reserved for bus traffic from 7:15-7:40. Those needing to park and come into the building may park in the front lot.
- No entering or exiting using the back drive before or after school.
