From the Office of Risk Management—Rick Elizalde, Alief ISD Asst. Superintendent of Support Services
It’s that time of the year again when allergies start to kick up and we wonder why. Please note the following:
Air fresheners are used as a means to improve smell. However, many air fresheners contain chemicals that
can trigger allergic symptoms in children and adults. Many air fresheners and fragrances contain volatile
compounds including alcohol, petroleum distillates, limonene, and formaldehyde.
Exposure to VOAs can trigger asthma symptoms in children and adults. Exposure to concentrations of VOCs can cause headache, dizziness, respiratory irritation, eye irritation, and memory problems. For individuals who are sensitive to smell, even light scents can cause an array of health problems.
We are asking everyone to discontinue the use of air fresheners of any type in all Alief ISD buildings.
Your cooperation is appreciated.
If you have a parent or 2 or more you’d like to come and volunteer in you classroom with clerical, cutting, bulletin boards, parties, mentor (not their own child please) or monitor please email Mrs. Medrano his/her name and phone number. She will call them to come fill out a VIPS application for clearing and authorization from HR.
VIPS procedure – before a parent can volunteer, join on field trips, evening events they must be cleared from HR and State “criminal background”.
Once parents have been cleared from HR and all depts. we will notify you and schedule them in your room/building.
