Welcome to our Classrooms

Mr. Martin's Welcome!!!

Well, we made it through week #2 and all I can say is WOW! I was told that coming to Peterson Elementary would be an amazing experience, but I never imagined that it would be this wonderful already. We have had a busy but fantastic 2 weeks of building a positive culture of deep thinking and learning within both classes. There are so many different personalities and it has been interesting to watch the them all meld together. I could not ask for a better group of kids. They have made me feel so welcome at Peterson and they are all so sweet and polite. I look forward to really digging deep with every student and meeting each one's personal needs for success.

Ms. Turner's Welcome!!!

I cannot believe we have been in school for two weeks now! Time sure does fly by when you're having fun! I just want to start off by saying how much I have enjoyed getting to know each and everyone of my students. They have the best manners I have ever seen! Good job parents! I appreciate how welcoming you all have been with my first year here at O.A. Peterson. I truly feel the positive energy in the air! Your kids have accomplished a lot in these last two weeks. They have been introduced to a few different books. We have learned a new reading strategy to get them to think beneath the surface. You can ask them about the "Say Something" strategy when they are reading. In writing, they have written every single day and have shared their wonderful entries with the class. We ask ourselves questions on how we can expand more on our writing. In Social Studies, we have discussed the importance of the American and Texas flag, comparing and contrasting the two.

Meet Mr. Martin and Ms. Turner

Curriculum Previews

We will continue to build routines into our class with problem solving and higher levels of thinking. We are going to begin in our curriculum with topics such as place value, comparing and ordering numbers, addition and subtraction review and eventually moving on to a review of multiplication along with applications of all of the previously mentioned topics.

We have been diving into the scientific method and inquiry-based lessons. We will soon be discovering properties of matter and how we classify objects. We will then move into matter and properties of energy.

We are going to start the writing process for a narrative. They will also create their own topics and pick one of their liking to write about. We will continue to do quick writes everyday. Quick writes are timed and they can choose whatever they want to write about. So far, they have been very successful and have enjoyed writing freely.
