## March 22, 2019

Hi Team 8 Families!

We hope everyone had a great week back from break. Students had a busy academic week and are finally adjusting to a full week schedule! Students should be working hard over the weekend and through next week to finish all missing assignments before the term 5 ends next Friday, March 29. Today we had the pleasure of honoring our Team 8 Stars! Check out their picture below.

Thanks!

## Language Arts

In language arts, we finished reading the Part 3 excerpt of Feed by M.T. Anderson. Students created a personal "feed" and presented their projects in small groups.

Advanced students finished reading Feed and participated in a literary circle where they were assigned four roles to take a closer look at the text.

Next week, all students will be have a final Feed quiz and begin their Unit 3 research projects!

Have a wonderful weekend!

## Math

We are in the middle of our unit on the Pythagorean theorem. Students have discovered what the Pythagorean theorem is, how they can use it calculate the missing sides of right triangles and how they can use the converse of the Pythagorean theorem to determine if a triangle is a right triangle. They have also learned how they can use the Pythagorean theorem to find the distance between two points on a coordinate plane. Next weeks students will explore using the Pythagorean theorem to solve real world applications before we review and test!

## History

This week we are taking a Journey through the Civil War by learning about the technology and even the songs that were sung during the time.

We round our week out by discussing the Battle of Antietam and the Emancipation Proclamation.

Fun Fact!! The students strongly dislike the Civil War song "Goober Peas", so if you need them to do something for you, be sure to play the song for them.
