News and Notes

Dear Parents,

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and were able to take some time to rest. We had a fabulous second full week of school. Thank you so much to all who attended our Virtual Back to School Night! Even though it was different from our usual back to school night, it was a very positive night.

Congratulations to Mrs. Chester and her husband on the birth of their son! He was born on Thursday. Congratulations Baby Chester!! I would like to welcome Ms. Cirillo, who will be teaching 1st grade while Mrs. Chester is on maternity leave.

Winter Uniform will begin on Tuesday, October 12th. You may send your child in Winter uniform any time, as Summer uniform is optional. Beginning Tuesday, October 12th, all students must be in complete Winter uniform. We will still have Spirit Wear on Fridays.

Don't forget that this Friday is an 11:45 dismissal due to a Faculty Meeting.

Have a great week,

Ms. Kazan

IRIS Alert Test

Thank you to everyone for sending in your IRIS forms. We have updated our list for the 21-22 school year. While updating we noticed many duplicate numbers. We have fixed all of those so hopefully you should not be receiving 8 or 9 call from IRIS. We will be having a test of the IRIS alert system today, Tuesday, September 28th at 3:30pm. Please let the office know if you do not receive a call or email at that time.

MAP Assessments

Beginning this week the students of Transfiguration School will take NWEA MAP Growth assessments on a computer or tablet. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.

MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

Students in Grades 1 and 2 will take assessments in Reading and Math while students in Grades 3 and 8 will participate in Reading, Math and Language Usage. This year grades 5 through 8 will also take assessments in Science. Kindergartners will take a Screener test this session and will participate in the assessments in the Winter Admission. Each test, while untimed, typically takes less than one hour. This year you will receive a Family Report showing a summary of how your child is performing academically.

We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. We request that students are on-time and fully rested to ensure they are able to concentrate at their best. Following is a schedule of MAP assessments for our school. I have linked a family guide to MAP growth below.
