Emotions in the MIDDLE

Moody, private, self conscious... if this sounds like your tween, you're not alone. At this age, his/her body and emotions are changing rapidly. here are ways to help him cope.

Managing Moods: Physical growth and worries about friends, sports and schoolwork can cause moodiness. Let your child know you're available to talk. A quiet statement, such as "I remember what it feels like not to be asked to join a team". can invite him or her to open up about what's bothering him/her.

Fitting In: Many middle school students feel self- conscious. Being part of a group of people who share his/her interest can help your youngster focus on his/her strengths and feel more confident. Encourage him to participate in at least one activity, perhaps and sport, club or choir.

Needing to see the counselor?

Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chromebooks by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. If you have any questions or need help finding the form refer to the email that was sent today (Friday) from Mrs. Horstmeier. You can also ask your teacher for help. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time.

OLSAT Testing

Looking forward into September we will be testing 6th grade student using a group IQ test called OLSAT. This assessment identifies a student rough verbal and non verbal intelligence. We use this to help identify students who may qualify for project extra.

6th Grade Band:

This upcoming week in band we are going to working on the firs two notes in the book. We are focusing on number 1-4 on page 4 and need to be able to name the note, know the fingering and be able to clap and count and then play the note.

We are also starting band olympics this week. Students have been broken up into teams and have picked countries to represent. There will be weekly competitions, students will earn points for their teams and at the end of the quarter the team with the most points will earn a prize!

If you student ordered a book through the school, they are in and they cost $10.99. These can be paid for with cash or check. Checks should be made payable to FULTON MIDDLE SCHOOL. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Also, if your student needs any reeds, valve oil, slide grease or any other accessory for your instrument, you can always buy these through the school as well!

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Throughout the year I will post things on google classroom as well as through email. Please check your emails frequently.
