Notes From Mr. Nichols
Hello Parents -
We have been off to a great start to the full in-person learning the last couple of weeks. It really is amazing how well the kids have adapted to the new normal. And a lot of that credit goes to you. You are the ones that taught them all the hand washing, masking, social distancing, and everything else that helps us stay safe. And as we have travelled through this pandemic you have reinforced those habits and we can really see the time and energy you put into it all is paying off. Thank you!
About the only snafu we’ve had is in regard to the pick-up time (and drop-off to a lesser extent). So below are a few reminders regarding the arrival and dismissal of students at Windsor.
As a reminder, St. Theresa’s has given us permission to use their parking lot at those times. Many of our families find it much easier to park and walk across to get their children at dismissal, or to have their student walk across with the crossing guard and meet them in the parking lot. Earlier in the year we asked parents not to congregate out front. I would like to walk that back now a bit and just say that if you are going to be out front, please wear a mask, please socially distance yourselves, and please, please give plenty of room around the door for our students and teachers. We’re starting to turn the corner with this pandemic it feels like, and I’d hate to cause an outbreak here at school or in your families.
ARRIVAL
- Students can be dropped off and enter the building no earlier than 7:30am as supervision is not available.
- Students are to be dropped off by West Doors or enter through front doors if they are walking or you are dropping off at St. Theresa’s parking lot.
- At west doors please stay in your car and pull up as staff direct you to before stopping to let your student out.
- If you need to get out of your car to help your child or unbuckle them, then you MUST pull into a parking space.
- Students are tardy after 7:45am.
DISMISSAL
- School dismisses at 2:40pm
- Students can be picked up at the front doors, in the St. Theresa's parking lot, or the west doors.
- If you are picking students up at the west doors, please use the sign with your student's name and grade level on it for the teacher to see. If you need a sign please contact jacqueline.pudenz-powers@dmschools.org and she will get one for you.
- If you need to get out of your car to help your child or buckle them in, then you MUST pull into a parking space.
- If you need to talk to a teacher, please pull into a parking space
- If students have to enter their car on the driver side, please park and then load child, we worry about cars pulling past on the left side and a child get hit.
Take care and stay safe!
Mr. Nichols
Attendance Information
Dear Families,
We want to provide some clarification about our attendance system for our in-person and virtual learning settings.
Communication will continue to be extremely important. Parents/guardians should contact their student’s school if the student is unable to participate in daily instruction for both virtual and in-person learning due to illness, internet connectivity issues, or other extenuating circumstances. School office staff will receive this information, update student attendance records, and be able to support your family.
Families that have selected 5 day IN PERSON instruction:
If your family has chosen in-person learning, the expectation is that they will be in the classroom 5 days a week.
• With this, teachers will monitor student attendance based on students physically present.
• Teachers will mark a student as ‘participating’ if they are in the classroom.
• Teachers will mark a student as ‘not present’ if they are not in the classroom.
In our on-going efforts to support your student, it is important to communicate with the office when your student is unable to attend in-person instruction. This will allow our staff and teachers to support your student academically.
Families that have selected 5 day VIRTUAL instruction:
Teachers will continue to monitor daily student participation following the same criteria in the virtual setting. This can include synchronous learning participation, canvas module participation, work submission, and office hour meetings
Do you have a child that will be 5 on or before September 15, 2021?
