KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
This week we have been involved in lots of activities! Last week we had the junior athletics day - this is a new initiative for the juniors and well organised and run by Mr Stirling. Today we had the middle and senior athletics day - what a great event! Well done to everyone who gave 100%
Today we had our second Vogeltowner assembly for 2019. Well done to all the kids who got an award - you all deserve this prestigious certificate. See all the lucky kids below.
At our Vogeltowner assembly today we also said farewell to Mrs Baunton. A big thanks to Dana for all the work she has done at Vogeltown over the last few years. We gave Dana a Vogeltowner award!
Please have a good read of the BOT information from our BOT chair Mike Miners below.
ENROLMENTS 2020
We have had a flurry of enrolments this week for 2020, if you know of anyone enrolling, can you please get them to inform the office.
Please note, if you have a student who is transitioning to an intermediate or year 7 - 13 school in 2020 we advise you to check that the enrolment has been received and accepted by that school. This is especially important for schools that have an enrolment scheme in place. Thanks heaps!
KIDS CORNER
DARK DAY
As I wake up from my gloomy dream i stare outside it's still dark. I check the time it's 8:00 o'clock in the morning. I go to wake up my parents but they aren't there. I turn the tv on. BREAKING NEWS it's the "ennnd.. crrr". I decided to go outside. My parents car was there, I wonder where they have gone? I hear a thundery noise approaching me. I realized it was a group of people. As they got closer they turned out to be ZOMBIES!!! I ran for my life! They started to circle around me. At the last second, a man grabbed me by my arm. "COME ON, WE HAVE TO GO" he said. I followed him to this weird location, the place looked familiar. He said this is home for now.
FROM THE VS BOT
Kia ora Vogeltown School Whanau,
And just like that, 2019 (and another decade) is nearly over! I’m sure you’ll all be eager for the Christmas break – a chance to spend some quality time together. Not long to go and we’ll be getting sand between the toes and a chance to take a breath!
It’s always busy at Vogeltown School and 2019 has been no different. Reflecting on the year, we’ve achieved a great deal in all areas. The newly elected Board has hit the ground running with many changes and tweaks in the background to support efficiency and continued improvement. A great deal of work goes on both in and outside the classroom, before, during and after the regular school day to ensure our Vogeltowners are getting the very best educational experience it is possible to provide.
For that the Board are hugely grateful to Mr Ogle and his dedicated team for delivering a unique and very personal level of learning for our community. The consultation undertaken earlier in the year and the academic achievement results support that the School is getting it right with exemplary feedback in all aspects. For me, the recent all-school Production personifies everything that makes Vogeltown such a special and inclusive place. It was a memorable experience to see the entire cohort up on stage delivering ‘our’ story.
2020 will see continued improvements to property on both sides of the road. We’re resourced to deliver upgrades to infrastructure and modernise teaching spaces. Having commissioned the new classroom this year, we’re excited to maintain the momentum. We will be continuing our focus on a traditional, values based rounded education for your children – facilitating this is the core priority for your Board.
It’s with sadness that we bid farewell to Dana Baunton and Sheila Parker. It is the passion and commitment of people such as these that make a school. We, and hordes of past staff and pupils are very lucky to have benefitted from your service for such a long time Sheila - the whole community wish you and Frank every happiness for the next chapter!
Thank you to our Year 6 families! We wish you all well in your new Schools as you ‘Go Forward’ representing Vogeltown.
Have a truly special summer together with your families – make some great memories. Happy Christmas and best wishes from the Board and we look forward to a successful 2020!
Meri Kirihimete,
Mike Miners and the Board of Trustees

Over the next week all our term 4 sports have their final games. Can I please ask that all players take a spare top to their final games so that their school playing tops can be handed to the coach/manager after the game. It is a huge help to me to have all the tops handed in as a team set with the gear bags at the end of each season so thank you in advance for your co-operation with this.

THANK YOU!
We are not going to be doing a thank you morning tea this year, - however look out for some pretty awesome cards in the post!
When you look at the school year it is hard to believe just how much we fit in the school terms - senior camp, winter and summer sports teams, Road Patrol, Home and School team fundraising, Domain planting, Dads and Lads, trips out of school, whanau events, in class help, fundraising, Rotarian readers each Thursday, our wonderful TA’s offering great programmes for our kids and we are still not finished, also - Hangi, Syndicate events and Yr 6 leaving assemblies in the last week! WHEW!
Thanks to the sports coaches! As a sports coach of my boys cricket team and football team I understand the commitment every Saturday morning, the pressures of keeping all the parents happy, being on show in front of an audience and ‘herding cats’ whilst offering great coaching tips! Needless to say, I am very happy that cricket has finished for the year and I am looking forward to my sleep in on Saturday morning!
Thanks whanau! Mr O
