Message from the Principal
Last week was a big reveal for our youngest learners in District 34. After much working with our Early Childhood rebranding team the new District 34 Preschool was officially revealed along with the cutest mascot around! District 34 Preschool is housed at Westbrook and serves students ages three through five across all of District 34's boundaries. A huge thanks to the rebranding team! If you would like more information regarding preschool please visit https://preschool.glenview34.org/ or call our main office.
This week all Westbrook students were able to view our first in person assembly thanks to the Westbrook/Glen Grove PTA. Professional BMX rider Matt Wilhelm shared a powerful message with all students to "never give up" and to "be a hero" to stand up to bullying. He shared with students that at many times during his professional career he wanted to quit and give up due to his lack of success. He also shared a meaningful story about when he was picked on as a child due to the size of his ears. He told students that it took one brave peer to stand up for him and the teasing stopped. He referred to this peer as his superhero. He also showed off some amazing tricks that wowed the crowd! Thanks again to our PTA for providing this experience for all students!
Students also participated in three drills this week including fire, emergency weather, and a lockdown with options. Please know that we practice these drills over the course of the year to prepare students and staff in case there was an emergency. All staff talk to their students prior to the drills beginning as we want students to confident in their response.
Next week we look forward to Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week across the district. Another HUGE thanks to the PTA for providing an entire weeks worth of appreciation to the staff here at Westbrook. Please see the communication provided below by the PTA for more information.
We are fortunate to have another in person performance by Griffin's Tale on Friday, May 6. This group takes stories provided by Westbrook students and acts them out in a theatrical performance. Thanks again to the PTA for providing this event.
We also look forward to an in person book fair the week of May 9th in the Westbrook LRC. More information to come!
Enjoy the weekend!

Class Placement Input
In creating classes, we strive to take into account all that we have already learned regarding the social, emotional, academic and creative aspects of every child. Our goal is to form balanced, heterogeneous classes in which each child can succeed. If you have additional information that you feel is important for us to consider when placing your child in a class for next school year, please share it with me in writing (or email: phoeft@glenview34.org) no later than Friday, April 29th. If your child will not be returning to Westbrook for the 2022-2023 school year because your family is moving or he/she will be enrolling in a private school, please let the front office know as soon as possible via email to mzenzola@glenview34.org and pschurr@glenview34.org.
Your thoughts about your child’s peer relationships and previous school experiences are certainly valued. Consistent with past practice at Westbrook School, however, please know that we are unable to honor requests for specific teachers. If you have any questions about the class placement process, please feel free to reach out!
