Message to Families / Mensaje a las familias
Estimadas familias,

Dear Families,
Happy Spring to you all. We certainly have been experiencing all four seasons of weather lately- sun, warmth, rain, hail, and cold. We have been enjoying our first full week of April and focusing on our problem solving skills.
We have been preparing this week for our switch next week to indoor eating. I have heard that this change is coming as a surprise to some, but almost all schools in PPS made this switch to return to eating full time in cafeterias in March (in line with changes to mask and social distancing requirements) and we have been planning this for some time. As of March 1st, we only have had one case of COVID-19 among our students and staff and we have had no cases since Spring Break. Eating outside was a necessary safety precaution, but it does have additional costs and requires a large amount of human resources. In addition, our younger students will now have full access to our playground which includes newly installed basketball nets and repainted lines.
As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the breakfast routine will now change for Kindergarten and First Grade. First Grade students will be dropped off at the cafeteria door near the school dumpsters between 7:45am and 8:00am. Kindergarten students will be dropped off at the back door to the Kinder Annex between 7:45am and 8:00am (note: this is a change from the procedure described in last week’s newsletter). The breakfast procedure for grades 2-5 will remain the same. Students will line up on the large playground and can access breakfast from the doors by the elevator.
I also want to give a huge shout out to our PTA, our school staff and all of the volunteers who made our long period of outdoor eating possible this year. Our staff members Jay Longfellow (Art Teacher) and Jeff Walker (Paraeducator) showed up early every morning (rain or shine) to lead the set up of the tables and chairs. Many of you parents also actively supported the set up and take down of the tables each day. Also, our PTA leaders and members rallied to make this all possible at the beginning of the year when we were struggling to develop an outdoor eating option. Thank you to all!
We look forward to having a smooth transition with this new procedure and a great week ahead.
