Define
Industry, where goods are produced or a service is preformed in the economy, took a rise in America in the first 30 years of the 19th century. This is described as the early stages of the American Industrial Revolution. There was a shift to urbanization and from agriculture to industrial economy which Included increased productivity, transition from hand made to machine made goods, and better quality products.

- Cause -The new era of production created a new demand to manufacture goods. Samuel Slater emigrated from England to America and brought with him the secrets to manufacturing textiles. He built the first factory in America in 1790 and after the success this one generated they started to show up all over the country. The canal and railway systems also played an essential part in spread the industrial success around the country. People could trade with anyone located in the continental United States due to this new transportation. Due to growing economy more jobs were available and in need of people to fill them. Immigrants moved in from European countries to gain a better life which helped to spur the new industrial economy. These causes were what helped America’s new growing industry.
- Characteristics-The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution. While industrialization brought about an increased volume and variety of manufactured goods and an improved standard of living for some, it also resulted in often grim employment and living conditions for the poor and working classes.
- Significance- Early Industry in the United States allowed for many advancements in technology and machines. It allowed for a high quality of living and not only lead to modern day innovations but gave us many social reforms for which are now normal for daily life in the Unites States. The early industry lead America to experience an industrial revolution which left America the richest country in the world.
