Historical Background
The Native Americans have lived in the Gulf Coast Region for thousands of years they lived with one another in small groups of about 25-50 people and spoke in kind of different languages most of the the Natives were from one of the two cultures Atakapa or the Karankawa . Both groups hunted the same animals such as cucks and geese .The groups migrated around the countryside at different times of the year to live and food . In the Spring and Summer, the Karankawa moved away from the Coast to hunt deer and harvest pecans. In the colder seasons they lived on the coast and ate oysters ,fish and roots .The Spanish boats have also ship-wrecked here in the Gulf Coast Region over 450 years ago
