News from Pier 25
February 12, 2016
Dear UMAC Parents,
We had such a wonderful week celebrating our 100th day of school on Tuesday and Valentine’s Day today! It is so much fun to take a small step back from learning and have a little fun with our students!! A special thank you to Mrs. Washington for organizing our Valentine’s Party today and Mrs. Wickman and Ms. Dittrich for volunteering to help. Also, the donations for our party were greatly appreciated! Let’s hope the “Honk Flu” is behind us all and we’re healthy the rest of the school year!
Enjoy the long weekend with your loved ones!

February Friendships
During the month of February, UMAC has decided to focus on the friendships within our team. Each week, our blog’s will be centered around friendships. Last week, each student randomly selected another student in the class and wrote a paragraph complimenting that student. It brought tears to my eyes to read the wonderful things the students had to say about each other.
Shared Reading
This week in shared reading we read one of our favorite historical texts, Henry’s Freedom Box. This is a true story of Henry Brown and how he escaped on the Underground Railroad. Students did a fantastic job using their knowledge learned in social studies to make deeper connections with this story. Our focus skill this week was character analysis. As we analyzed Henry’s thoughts and actions throughout the story we some very insightful inferences about Henry and this time period.

Time for a FIELD TRIP

We will be leaving promptly at 9:00 am on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 and return to school by 12:00 pm. The cost of this show is $3.00 per student. We will be sending the permission slip home next week.
