School Newsletter Term 1, Week 10
Thursday 6 April 2023
Kia ora Whānau,
As we come to the end of Term 1 of the 2023 school year, we are proud of the excellent progress our children have made in reading, writing, and mathematics so far this year. Thank you West End staff for your continued commitment and effort to nurture our children’s learning and development and for a great Term 1.
At West End School, we believe in the holistic development of our children, and our curriculum is built on our West End School values. We are proud to see our children developing and thriving in a values-based environment. Science learning has also been an integral part of our children's learning this term, with hands-on activities and experiments that allow children to explore and discover the world around them. Thank you Dr. A for your ongoing passion and commitment to this work with our children.
Music club has been an exciting addition to our co-curricular activities, with children exploring their artistic talents and discovering new forms of expression. Thank you Mrs. Emma Minchin for your wonderful work with our tamariki.
West End School also prioritises physical education and involvement in sports. Our children have been participating in various interschool sports events, building confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Thank you Miss Black for your ongoing efforts to grow Sport at Te Kura O Urumutu.
Lastly, I would like to remind you that our staff only day is on April 24th. On this day, our amazing staff will be joining other staff from schools across the Manawatu to work with the Ministry of Education on our new curriculum refresh. Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you West End Whānau for your ongoing support of our school and your child’s learning. I wish you a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing everyone back at school again for Term 2.
Ngā mihi nui,

Term 2 Sports at West End School
Please ensure if you would like your child to play a winter sport you have gone onto KINDO. As a school we are offering Basketball and Hockey at this stage.
Our new report format for Term 2
In Term 2 and 4, we will no longer be sending home a paper copy of a school report. You will have access to a new report format on Seesaw which will include information about your child’s progress and achievement, and a comment from the teacher for reading, writing, maths, as well as a general comment relating to attitude, behaviour and showing school values. There will also be an example of your child’s work to show the progress they have made in that area. Below is an example of one of our reporting pages. You will have access to school reports in Week 9 of next term.

Walking bikes and scooters in school grounds and across the crossing
A reminder to children to refrain from riding their bikes and scooters through school grounds and across our busy traffic crossing. We have some students who are travelling quickly and weaving around people as they rush to get to school and home at the end of the day. Can you please talk to your children about bike and scooter safety, for themselves and others.
If your child is absent from school.
It is really important under the current circumstances you notify the school if your child is absent.
PLEASE DO NOT TXT OR EMAIL THE CLASSROOM TEACHER.
ALL ABSENCES SHOULD BE ADVISED VIA THE OFFICE.
Please remember to advise the office by 8.30am if your child is not attending school.
You can telephone 358-2465 and leave a message or txt 021 118 0156.
ABSENCES CAN ALSO BE SENT EASILY THROUGH OUR SCHOOL APP

Thank you.
